We have the new Danelectro Cool Cat (red) Distortion.
I've never liked a cheap pedal this much, being a really nice and crunchy Marshallesque breakup with just the right amount of responsive compression, coupled with very usable post-gain stage (as opposed to the Cool Cat Transparent OD) Treble/Bass controls. $39, and it honestly sounds fairly amp-like in how it overdrives. It's already starting to give our BJF Dyna Red Distortion a run for its money. |

how cheap ?
I liked the little Dano FAB OD pedal, didn't care for the distortion too much, there were the plastic ones, haven't tried the new metal case pedals.
You can usually find a used Boss DS1 for around $25, and it's a great distortion pedal, and it's well made. I had a Digitech Screaming Blues and I didn't like it, a lot of people like the Bad Monkey. |

Well, I can definitely recommend the Bad Monkey and Boss DS1. But I've also had good luck with Behringer products, thank GOD, that I wouldn't mind trying out one of their OD pedals.
I don't know about the Danelectro pedals except for their "Pepperoni Phase" pedal...that I really love, if the Fab pedals go for $15 each, why not try one out? |

I haven't used them in ages, but I think there were some Arion Overdrives and Distortions that were pretty impressive consdiering the cheap prices. Some of the Behringer pedals are worth looking into for cheap pedal options, and some of the various lines of Danelectro pedals as mentioned...

I found a Guyatone OD-2 Overdrive for $30 used. New I think they go for about $60 - well worth it.

I'm liking my Boss SD-1 more than my Bad Monkey these days. The SD-1 is smoother in the mids. Both cost $49. Great classic overdrive.
This Dano pedal is amazing for $15....... ![]() FAB D-1 Dano Pedal Here is a demo......

Marshall Guvnor or if you want more natural tube-like break up from your amp, the Bluesbresaker II.
Not sure if thats what you consider cheap though. I would reccomend saving up abit more money for something that will last your longer. Its easy to be quickly frustrated with cheap dist boxes. |

Ds1 is great for what it is but hugely generic...and you'll be over it within a few weeks
go something like a big muff, much more interesting and still reasonably priced but you will most likely have a use for it forever |
