Andy Summers pre-amp

Hi gang,

Not sure if this is the correct section to post in but here goes...

Does anyone here have any thoughts on the pre-amp / booster used in Andy Summers tele?

Considering he bought the guitar 2nd hand and already modded in 1972 or thereabouts, how sophisticated could the circuit be?

I'm considering building an Andy Summers style tele and would like to be able to put some sort of pre-amp / boost circuit in.

Any comments / suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hoodie

I'd bet that an EMG PA-2 preamp would work fine for what your planning on building. The PA-2 is a nice small tidy package that uses a 9 volt battery for power and delivers up to 20db gain. I put one in my recent build and am quite pleased with the results.

An Alembic Stratoblaster FET Preamp is a simple circuit that could easily be stuck in a Telecaster. There are schematics available on line.

To those that use or seen a preamp in a tele...

Where does it go? In the control route? Do you need to route a new spot under the pickguard?

In the Andy Summers tribute model there's an extra routing from the rear behind the control plate. The are 2 holes through to the front of the guitar, one for the boost pot and one for an on/off switch.

You can see and hear what it sounds like here...
