Keeley Baked TS-9
On a bit of an impulse, I ordered a "baked" TS-9 from Keeley Electronics last week. I've never had an overdrive pedal, and was initially looking for something "clean," but for whatever reason, curiosity overcame me and I ordered the pedal.
It is awesome. What a cool pedal. I was worried it was not going to be very versatile, but I can kinda "clean it up" via the guitar volume (and turning down the drive). The tones are great, and it's all sorts of fun. I may ultimately grab a cleaner overdrive pedal at some point (still clueless as to what to get) but this will do for now. Plus, I can't imagine cleaner effects would be nearly as fun. Has anybody else bought/tried one of these baked TS-9's?? http://www.robertkeeley.com/product.php?id=4

I use one and like it. I consider it to be a mild distortion box , sounds pretty natural . I have it on my smallest rig, just delay, compression the TS-9, Wah and volume.
It gets me everything except total saturation. On my larger board I have a second , boost/distortion box a Keely mod. Blues Driver , that and a TS clone ,also with a Keeley mod. If you want something cleaner , perhaps you want a clean boost , with some eq capabilities. Just a thought. |

It says on keeleys website that the Baked Ts9's arent meant to clean up well. I just sent in my Ts9 for the mod plus but was stuck between that and the baked. Try a regular Ts9 or clone if you want something to clean up better.

i'm thinking of getting a Keeley TS-9 model, but he's got a few to choose from. I liked what i saw when i read about his TS9DX FLEXI-4X2 model. Apparently its his TS-9 Mod Plus and his TS-9 Baked Mod rolled into one. You can switch back and forth via toggle switch.
Sounds versatile to me. Does anybody use this? How about just the mod plus model? If you're looking for a nice clean overdrive pedal i definitely recommend the Keeley Phat Mod BD-2 Boss Blues Driver. It's fantastic and incredibly transparent. It's great for overdrive but it can also be used as a good clean boost. I use it to get my favorite tone out of my Dr. Z Maz 18 Jr. by putting the level at about 12 or 1 o'clock and only bringing the gain up a hair or two. Adds a nice crunch to an already clean tone. Makes it sparkle and sing. Also the Phat Mod works via toggle switch to give a bit more bass response when it's engaged. I love it!! Cheers! |

Thanks, I'll have to look into that, it sounds right up my alley. If you told me a month ago I would soon have a dual-overdrive pedal board, I'd have assumed you to be crazy...oh well...there goes the stimulus check.
