another Wah mystery resolved...
...broke the cheap star DP-DT switch in one night. I see these type of switches in boutique pedals all the time, but they don't seem to hold up under a wah treadle very long. While putting in a better switch (not a Carling, a mid priced Japanese made MM), I noticed that the rubber grommet on the back of the pedal was the same length as the two in front. No wonder the throw always felt too short! My buddy just happened to have a replacement back grommet which we installed & then rolled the pot a bit to get more highs. What a difference.
I bought this pedal new when Dunlop first started reissuing them, so I'm not sure if this was a mistake made at the factory, or if Dunlop was using the same size grommets at the front & back of all the pedals manufactured at this time (20+ years ago). If you've got one of this vintage and haven't cut the feet off (I understand that many people do this) check to see if the one in the back is as tall as the two in front - if so, it is restricting the tonal range of the pedal and should be replaced, removed or cut down.
Been loving my BudWah for some time now but this Crybaby RI (with the true bypass switch, the new red Fasel inductor and extended range) now sounds like a really good old McCoy....
