Tell me about your Looper....

I played with a Boss Looper today, the red duel pedal model. It was so easy to layer a 4 part groove. Lots of fun. Is this sort of fun a pasing fancy or do you really use a Looper for writing and playing?

What do you do with a looper after 4 months of looping grooves?

I'm wondering if people get sick of loopers or if they have longevity as far as pedals go.

I appreciate any looper input.

I think I went through about a 6-month looping jag where I used it all my solo shows. I still use it at home to jam out ideas, loop a progression to sing over while writing and so forth.

I never added vocals to it ... I should try it out ... I sing! Need to give it a go.

Fun tool and it can add some elements to live shows, but ya gotta be careful of the overkill.

My Boss RC-20 hisses like a snake. I never put it in the input signal chain, but instead run it from a miked amp, or a mixer send, and then back to a return.

Thats the only way I can stand the sound of the thing, and for me its just a home studio effect anyway. It gets in the way of playing with others.

I've had an RC-2 for nearly a year now and I'm still using it. For practice quite a lot, as well as for playing with a drummer friend of mine. I can't imagine getting tired of it.

I've only had an RC-2 for a couple weeks now, but I'm enjoying it so far. I'm a little disappointed with not being able to switch between patches, but that's nothing an external footswitch won't fix.

I'd say it's going to depend on how you like to practice. The looper's been good for me working on my really weak leads and getting more comfortable with playing. Plus, it's not a bad place to store projects you're working on and experiment with different layers.

I have a Zvex Lo-Fi Loop Junkie. 20 seconds of analog looping in an MXR sized box. It also has Tremolo for the playback.

This is a pedal that I wanted from the first time I saw one. Obviously, it's very limited with the length of the loop, and being pure analog it's pretty noisy, but it fits my needs very well. I use it at home and throw out short loops that let me create really cool grooves, and it works very well for working out lead parts.

I find the pedal to be very musical and inspiring.

Near to the top of my 'Favourite guitarist ever' list is a guy from Cambridge (who now tours with Boo Hewerdine) called Rob Jackson who used to do solo gigs with himself and several loopers and it was fabulous !!
He could record all manner of loops without you really being aware of what he was doing and then just solo over them at will, it never seemed like an 'effect' it was just part of the music, guess thats why he's such a great player.
