Help me pick a Reverb Pedal!

For around $150 or less preferably.

Versatility and small size are pluses but sound is king of course!

Enlighten me!

The Mashall Reflector has two spring reverb settings and other settings and the tone is warm and ogranic.

The housing is bulletproof.

I love this pedal......

$119.00 - great pedal.

The Holy Grail from ElectroHarmonix is an excellent reverb pedal...two reverb settings plus a flerb setting that is a combination of reverb/flanger. I love mine.

I've had the Reflector, and it's not a bad reverb pedal, but prefer the Holy Grail PLUS... the PLUS is an "upgrade of the Holy Grail", in a smaler box with additional controls/verbs (it adds a ROOM verb & an AMOUNT knob)

It's still not amp reverb, but it's close. And the EHX must be powered with either the EHX adaptor (that comes with it) or an isolated power supply like the PP2+ or it will be noisy. No daisy chains/One Spots/Poweralls/DC Bricks.

I love my Verbzilla and I recently found out that John Jackson (Dylan, Lucinda, currently Shelby Lynne) also uses one on tour.

Very versatile although I know that some people have a hard time with the tiny font used on the pedal. I have a couple settings I use and just mark them.

I had a Holy Grail and it lacked something for me - too rack effecty, not ampy enough.

I will try the Verbzilla next myself. And then I won't like it and I will try the Reflector!

I thought a while about various reverb pedals: Holy Grail, Danelectro, Boss, etc. I finally decided to try out the Boss RV-5. I've always liked Boss gear, so I thought I'd give a go.

btw, I supplemented my search with youtube. Lots of reviews of various pedals on there and you can get a variety of vids to hear different approaches and applications of a pedal.

If AMP (spring) reverb is what you're after, and don't want an actual outboard spring unit, be sure to check out Lee Jackson's Mr. Springy, it's a little over your price range - $200. But it's supposed to be the best spring "simulation" out there.

Reverb

I'm pretty happy with my Marshall Reflector. $100.00

Its very tweakable (unlike Holy Grail) and not digital sounding like Boss, Digitech, Alesis...And uses a normal power supply unlike Verbzilla.

Don't think so. Nowhere on Dunlop's description is the word "isolated" used, and I've been reading for years on these forums that it's just a fancy daisy-cain, like the One-Spot put into a boxed format.

And the HG+ IS noisy with the DC Brick, unless the HG+ is the only thing on it.

My experience....Holy Grail noisy as heck (extremely noise).......very cheap construction....at one setting sounded decent (but still noisy) ...

On the other hand as one other person mentioned... The Marshall Reflector is built like a tank (pun not intended) and sounds great and has way more useable settings and is noiseless!!! Holy Grail is like a hobby project gone bad compared with this thing... IMHO

Interesting, I power my Verbzilla with my PP+ just like my other pedals. No special cable or anything.

I have read good things about the Reflector but my search ended before I tried one.

There definitely are some good options available.

Anyhow I do use Holy Grail (not Plus ver.) with genuine power supply and can't complain about its noise or whatever. I use it as the last fx unit after Triaxis, Roland GP-100

Whats wrong with your twins reverb? The only thing better than that is outboard.

Exactly. Pedal Powers are fine (isolated outputs) and the EHX Wall Wart is fine. Use either one of those, and the HG/HG+ should not be noisy.

I power mine with the EHX wall wart & it's silent.

I never knew there was such a thing a "outboard spring reverb"? Are they expensive or easy to make?

Sorry to hijack

'63 Fender Reverb:

http://www.fender.com/products//sear...tno=0217500000

A few other companies make them as well.

And, the Vanamps stuff is also true "outboard" spring reverb.

If it were ME, and I didn't want to settle for a digital reverb pedal, I'd go with the VanAmps stuff, unles I was a reverb-aholic, in which case the Fender '63 is supposed to be the end-all-be-all.

I have a Holy Grail Plus, and like it, but prefer the reverbs on my amps: Blues Jr & Black Pearl.

Nothing at all. Well actually it's pretty noisy. But it sounds great while I'm playing and I record with it often. Trouble is I like to use two amps on stage and the reverb on each is different and together they don't always jive. Plus I like to be able to dry up my signal without having to reach back towards the amp and turn knobs down.

Seems like I've got to check out the verbzilla and the reflector. And the holy grail plus. I'm not really looking for a super expensive spring reverb or anything, and I actually like to have options other than spring. Nobody else digs the boss stuff?

Get an outboard and have it going through a volume pedal through one amp and you can do reverb swells.

i've got a RV-5 and on a scale of 1 to 10 i'd rate it as "sucks". it's passable but for a few dollars more the Mr. Springy is head and shoulders above the boss
