I only have the CE-5so I can't compare them for you/ An interesting tid bit of information is that the Boss Chorus pedals went from analog to digital in 2001. The only way to tell is decoding the serial number on the back. This and other information you might find useful can be found at www.bossarea.com. If it all else fails you tube it.

to me the ch-1 always sounded more like a modern chorus while the ce-5 does the old boss chorus thing...swirly and thick. the ch-1 can't thicken up as much as a vintage sounding unit, but it's not as clear as a tc electronics or anything like that. it's good for the price, but the ce-5 can get you closer to the ce-1 or ce-2 sound if that's what you're after...
i finally settled on a dc-3 myself...has more of the 80's country thing (lookin for love) type sound to my ears -- i hate thick swooshy chorus...but i really dig the dc-3 and how it seems like a BIG stereo spread thru one amp. hope this helps! |

Boss CE-1, Hands down, the BEST
I have used a Boss Chorus Ensemble, CE-1 which came out in 1976. I switched to a H20 because it got to be kinda' cumbersome for a gig and it needed going through (pots cleaned, etc) BUT I have never been able to approach the sound this old CE-1 had- nothing comes near it! Of course, I haven't explored the really high end, high $$ systems (T.C. Electronics, etc) I also have a Uni-Vibe which is kinda hard to compare to a regular chorus. If I had my choice of any chorus it would definitely be the CE-1. Good stuff on this post; my first time. Anyone have a source for pedal board cases? I use a medical grade power supply in both of my boards but they are home-made and I would like something to safely tote to gigs and store my rigs in. For anyone that has used a CE-1, is there anything out there that comes close to it but doesn't cost the arm and the leg? |
