The cheapest one I know of is the Fender one though I've never used it. I use the Boss TU-2 because I can power other pedals but lately I've been eyeing something with True Bypass like the Korg Pitchblack and older Korg tuners. Alot say the Boss TU-2 sucks alot of tone and I agree. I think a good tuner is good investment and you might want to wait till you can afford a nicer one.

i have the TU-2 and an older strobo-stomp. both excellent tuners and few if any issues. the new strobo-stomps are better built (lost the plastic jacks, etc) and have a great reliability factor.
the boss costs less and is not as accurate (close enough for rock n roll) and the peterson has true bypass and lots of presets, etc. both worthy tuners in my book steve |

Korg pitchblack, costs $10 less than a boss tu-2 and they are more accurate, easier to read, and are true bypass. Those three things alone put it above a tu-2 in my opinion. Oh and I forgot to mention you can also power other pedals with it like just like the tu-2 can do.

If I could do it again I'd probably by a Korg PitchBlack but they didnt have that when I was in the market its definitely and excellent pedal. If you have a volume pedal alot of them have a tuner out so its not in your signal chain so TB wouldnt matter anymore.

I've got a tu-2. It's currently yanked from the chain (I've been playing with new pedals recently) and I do not notice any great change in tone. I hear people bashing this pedal, yet a go-zillion of them out there on everyones' boards. I'm sure it's because it's whats available. My wife bought mine for me last birthday. I'da probably picked up something more accurate, but it works for quick tunings on stage.
I hear good things about the Korg recently. Lance has the strobostomp and it confuses me... I don't know that it'd work for me on stage... though a few hours of tuning and It'd probably work just fine.

I've never had any problems with my TU-2.
I use an Ernie Ball volume pedal that has a tuner out, so it's not in the chain, but even when it was, I never noticed any noise from it. It's always been accurate enough for me to get the job done, though I admit, I've never checked it against other devices.

I'm using a Turbo Tuner and really liking it. I haven't tried it in a pedal chain yet. It's a strobe tuner and also has an external mic for acoustics. Good stuff.

I just bought the korg-dt10br last week,it comes with a cascade cable to power 3 extra pedals,$69.95,americanmusical.com,FREE SHIPPING when you buy $79.95 worth of stuff,so buy $10-worth of strings or something to get free shipping.I really like it,it seems to be the most bang for the buck at this time. One thing I have learned about good quality tuners is that a good tuner will show you when your string have crapped out,and never start a gig with crapped out strings,it makes for a long nite.

+1 for the planet waves. I tried many $30 and under tuners and they all broke after a few months. The boss is too much money and doesnt look as cool either. I got my planet waves from a local music store for under $60 brand new! It is true bypass mechincal switching, you can power other pedals with it too.

I've had them all and hated them all until I got a TU-2. Very reliable and accurate. At least mine is. I've put its strobe like setting (Yes the TU-2 has one) up against a computer based strobe tuner I have and it's dead on. It could be mine but I don't get the inaccurate part of peoples description. Before (when I had the Jimi Hendrix perm Lol) I used it as a buffer between my wah and fuzz face to get the wah to work. I use a A/B switch these days. |

Unfortunately, I've had too many problems with Korg products that it will be a long while before I buy anything that has "Korg" written on it!
FWIW, I use Planet Waves pedal tuner. |

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned my current fave - the grey Fender tuner. Very popular her in Oz - metal casing (robust!) and not too bad on the pocket. I'd have to check up on the bypass thing - wasn't aware there was issues. Regards.

Hi franchelB,
Sorry to hear you've been having Korg problems. I've had a DT-10 for around four years and it's been totally reliable. I just bought the new Korg Pitchblack because I was intrigued by the company's claims of better tuning accuracy. They weren't kidding! With the DT-10, I often have to manually tweak a guitar's tuning a bit even after using the tuner. With the Pitchblack, tuning the three quitars I've tried it with so far (two Strats and a Tele) has been spot-on to my ears, no after-tuning adjustment required. The meters are also much more sensitive and easier to read than the DT-10. The real test will come in about a week when I use the Pitchblack during an outdoor gig. The DT-10 is hard to see in bright sunlight. |

"Korg builds great products, I'm sure. Unfortunately, I don't think their products work for me..."
Not to get off topic, but this sounds like a used Saab I used to own. The car would only have problems when I drove it, and almost never when my wife did. I got to really dislike the car (no offense to Saab lovers) to the point of claiming it disliked me also, and referring to it as "Christine." However, my wife remained skeptical until one day, as we were going to drive somewhere, the plastic part of the hood ornament literally popped off and flew at me! I guess "YMMV" is true for guitar effects as well as for Saabs. |
