The Joy of Fuzz - Flying Tomato Mutant style

All of you can once again be proud to know that you have driven another TDPRI member to spend money on a new toy thereby contributing to the world economy.

In this case, it's a Subdecay Flying Tomato Mutant Fuzz.

Just plugged it in for the first time yesterday and what a great pedal. I don't know what took me so long. Well, actually I do -- I've never been one for big distortion and had owned a Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz for a while.

I can't compare to any of the other multitude of fuzz boxes out there, but I'm loving the Flying Tomato so far. Seems like there are tons of good sounds in here. With Volume up and Fuzz down it's just a little dirty but feels more aggressive than an overdrive pedal. Fuzz up and Volume down is smoother but more detailed than most distortion pedals I've used. But I think the Bias knob is going to be my best friend on this thing. With it full clockwise everything is smooth with very little extra overtones. Bring it to about half way and your still in control but you start to get these little new sounds that don't quite match with what you hit on the guitar. Bias all the way counter clockwise and you've starved the power supply to get those cool sputtering about to crap out almost-electronica sounds on single notes but then you hit a big chord and it comes back to life. Such fun.

More playing and experimenting to come. Only played it with my Tele through a Carmen Ghia so far. Must try the Hamer w/P90s, Princeton and Super Reverb. I also just got a Zoom H2 recorder so I'll start to put some clips up someplace.

Sounds interesting...I had never heard of this pedal. What's the ballpark price for that thing?

$165 every place you look. Most I've ever spent on a pedal. I bought it based on soundclips on the website and good reviews of other Subdecay pedals. I watched eBay for about two months but never saw a used one come up so I finally broke down and bought new.
