The new pedal that has the most complex sound for me is the newer Digitech Multichorus. If you liked the vintage Roland Chorus Ensemble tone or the old Ibanez CS-9 tone, you'll love the MultiChorus.

I can nail the old Andy Summers Police sound with this pedal.

The more you crank the X-Series Voice knob, the more overtones that you hear in the Chorus. It's a neat pedal.

Some guys really like the Retro-Sonic Chorus: http://www.retro-sonic.com/

I've had really good results with my silver-screw Boss CE-2, so much so that I've had several offers to buy from those that have borrowed it.

I'm curious to try the Retro-Sonic. It's supposed to be a copy of the Roland CE-1.

I would love to get my hands on Boss CE-2. I've come close 3 times of getting one.

I rather like the Homebrew Electronics Three Hound Chorus (THC) for a battery powered pedal. However the chorus that is on my pedal board is the Retro Sonic Chorus. Too spendy, but I love the sound. Supposedly a copy of the vintage Boss CE-1

The old DanElectro Chorus can get some ok tones as well, on the cheap. So, it sort of depends on your budget, and personal tastes.

Funny enough, I've had three CE-2s and sold them on and now I want another one. GAS is a terrible thing .
The Arion SCH-1 is quite similar but folks have cottoned on to this and the prices are going up to ridiculous levels for a 20 year old plastic Japanese pedal. Either one of those would do me at the moment.

I have a CE-2 that i got off a TDPRI brother. I love it. Nothing else quite like it. But before that (and still occasionally) i used my old DOD. FX60 and FX65 & FX68 were all good choruses.

Had a CE-2. Really, really never got along with it. Sold it and bought one of the newer Boss units. Liked that one even less.

Right now I've got a Voodoo Lab Analog Chorus, but I primarily use that for faux-Leslie effects. Maybe I'm still burned out from the 80s.

interesting, the digitech caught my eye, but it is only 79 bucks, same as a Boss CE5, used to have the older Boss too. What about EHX's Small Clone?

Boss DC-3

the dc-3 came in 2 different names ("digital dimension" for the american market and "space-d" for the japanese market) but it is exactly what i wanted a chorus pedal to do. swirly with a hint of delay...nothing dark or flat about it...just big 3D bloooooooom...

they haven't been made for years, but it is a cool effect. if you don't like the standard boss or small stone sounds, it might be worth a try cause you can always get your money back out of it on ebay...

Change must be in the air. If this were posted even a year or so ago there'd be at least a few replies to the tune of "I hate chorus...here's your recommendation: none" or the like.

I've got an Ibanez Digital Stereo chorus that sounds amazing (especially through two amps).

Whatever you do get, get it now while choruses are still relatively snubbed. The prices will only go up.

The DCL? I have one of those too. Still mint, bought it brand new, blow-out priced at $35.00 way back when.

Another good 'un...

I love my Small Clone.

I usually like it in a slow and subtle setting and it seems to have a nice junky (meant as compliment) tone and keeps the guitar, fingers, pickups responsive.

though technically a delay pedal, i just picked up a used line 6 dl4 for $140. i wanted to replace my old fender delay cause it's quite old and fragile at this point. at the time, i was unaware that the line 6 was a delay/chorus/looper all in one. the chorus is very lush and controllable. it also functions with or without the delay making it more or less, two pedals in one. if you find a used one cheap, i think you'll be very satisfied.

I just picked up a CE-5 for a steal of a deal - it sounds nice enough if you tweak it enough.

If you can find one, get an old Boss CE1. Scour, search, seek out the old unit. Nothing sounds quite like it. But it's a lot of pedal board real estate for just a chorus-ensemble. You may want to consider the Line-6 MM4. It has a great chorus, and flange, phase, etc... and it's very adjustable and programmable.

Cheers, again, I hope I've been helpful.

Just got me one of these on eBay for not a lot of money. The seller pointed out the LED didn't work but I was intending to do a Monte Allum mod to it anyway so it didn't bother me too much.

When I got it it was filthy and covered in a sticky "goo" so I stripped it down and discovered what I suspect was the remains of a Guinness in the pedal.

I gave it a good clean, removed all the "goo" and gave the inside a liberal spraying of switch cleaner, put it all back together and tried it.

The LED works fine but more importantly, the pedal sounds great.

I'm using infront of my AC2 acoustic pedal and I'm getting a great acoustic-ish sound as well as a fabulous array of analogue chorus on its own.

So my vote is a Boss CE2. I'm going to try the Monte Allum mod at some stage but right now I'm happy.

Peter

You removed the goo? If you had ever watched The Antiques Roadshow you would know that you have killed the value of that pedal by at least 75%. That Guinness in the pedal was the life of it and should remain as testament to the history and use of the object.

Arion SCH-1

I think this is possibly the best Chorus pedal ever made , but as previously stated , it's fastly becoming the chorus equivalent of the original TS808 , and changing hands for decent money .

I've had mine since new , and though I don't use much chorus , it's also great for getting that rotary effect that you can hear on songs like SRV's Cold Shot etc .

Here's mine

I believe there is a newer Arion SCH-Z , but have no idea what they sound like , but they are very cheap .

I have a really nice old silver screw CE-2 which is just heavenly sounding. My backup is the vastly underrated DOD FX65 which sounds beautiful in stereo. I've also had an Ibanez CS-9, but prefer the other two.

I did little research by muself. Harmony central reviews are good reference.
I had Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensable. It is top quality but I didn't like it. It is too sweet.
The reveiws on Harmony Central has Ibanes CS-9, and I will buy that one.

Personally , I wouldn't take a lot of notice of Harmony Central reviews .

I used to call it the 10 out of 10 site , as gear which I had tried or had in the past and thought it was rubbish would still get a string of 10's on Harmony .

Boss CH-1 Super Chorus ~ not a bad all purpose chorus, but a little dry sounding, and sometimes I'm not sure it likes every pickup it hears. Easy to get very small amounts of chorus, and easy to tweak.

Danelectro Cool Cat ~ 18v model ~ very organic sounding pedal but no EQ, likes whatever it hears without discriminating. Not as easy to get slight amounts of chorus...wants to lay it on thick.

If I had the best of both pedals I'd be happier.
