Best Pedal for SS Fender Amp

Hi,

I've got a fender 85 deluxe Solid State amp.

The drives on the amp are not great but the clean is very useful, I'd like three sounds.

Clean, Overdrive, Solo Boost

Can anyone recommend a pedal for the last 2, preferably one unit.

Would something like a full drive 2 do the job perhaps

The nicest thing you could do for a SS amp, outside of donating it to a charity or music school, is to front-end it with a Boss/Fender '59 Bassman pedal.

Can you use one pedal and play your guitar with the guitar's volume pot turned back 20% and crank the guitar volume when you need the extra push.

Both of these pedals are $49 new. I have both.....love both. Great tubey tone.....

Yes.....it would work very well. Also, the Pedalworx Texas Two Step is a marvelous pedal in this regard. I've had excellent results with both of these pedals with tube amps and with solid state amps. Check out the Cream Tone GD2 pedal....I've heard it is splended. Have not had a chance to hear that one, but raves abound.

Tech 21 has some nice dual pedals out also, but the Fulldrive and Texas Two Step are the two that did it for me.

Every Pedalworx pedal I've had the pleasure to own ( or try ) has been a step or two above other pedals of the same ilk. Guess they just meld with my gear and style. Very inspiring.

I like putting a TS in front of whatever pedal I'm using for light distortion -- excellent solo boost. For example, I'm a big fan of using a Metal Zone with a little dirt and slightly scooped mids for rhythm, then hitting it with a TS9 (full volume, full treble, and minimal distortion). Really fills those mids back in, adds saturation, and makes it sing.

oh, that overdrive pedal with a 12AX7 tube in it sounds interesting but i have never owned one

i guess there are more companies than just the one i remember, tech 21, with that concept

I've been playing through that same amp for a while now. (still can't afford a good tube-amp)

Any suggestions for a roots-rock/old country/garagepunk player. I mostly want some more sustain and less "icepick highs", but I'm open to suggestions. Thought about the Bad Monkey as it seems to be popular around the board.

The most amp-like sounding pedal for any amp that has lots of clean headroom - tube OR SS - is the old Morley (currently Award-Session) JD-10 pedal. This is just from my personal experience, and I've tried out quite a few. I've used it into various amps, both tube and SS, and also straight to the PA with the JD-10's excellent speaker simulation engaged. Also great for direct recording too. Better than a POD IMO and YMMV.

It sounds so good through a clean SS amp that, for a long long time, I was leaving all of my tube amps at home and gigging with an old Peavey Bandit 65.

I know that it sounds too good to be true, and Morley no longer distributes them anymore. They're still made by Award-Session in UK, but they seem to be hard to track down nowdays. They've redesigned them a bit too, but I hear that they're still excellent.

JD10 direct from the manufacturer (in the UK). They were rebadged as Morley for the US market.
