Correct order for pedals?
I have a Boss BCB-60 pedalboard, which holds 6 pedals. I have the following 6 pedals:
Boss TU-2 Tuner Seymour Duncan Pickup Boost Boss CE-2 Chorus Boss DM-2 Delay Boss TS-9 Tubescreamer (w/ Keeley mods) Boss TR-2 Tremolo. What's the correct order for these effects? I can't run some of them in front of the amp (Traynor YCV50 Blue) and some through the effects loop, because they're all in the same pedalboard chain. So all in front, or all in the effects loop? And what is the correct order, and why? Thanks!

There was a post very similiar to this that was active about a month ago. You could get a pretty good idea from the show us your pedal board thread. I've heard your delay should come before your distortions.

I would go from the tuner - boost - overdrive - trem - chorus - delay
I like my overdrive effects before the delay and chorus because an overdrive acts like an extra preamp stage and putting the delay effects after is like running an effects loop, I think it just colors the sound differently and I find this way much more appealling. I'm sure there are those who would disagree but that's how I would put them, a little trial and error is cool because you never know what sound you might find by a little experimentation! in the end it all comes down to whatever blows your hair back! |

But anyway, I'd run it like this: 1. Tuner 2. Pickup Boost 3. Tube Screamer 4. I think you should put the Tremolo first, then the Chorus, but you're welcome switch it around...check either way to see which sound you prefer. 5. Delay |

Keeley has been saying that He puts his overdrive before comp, I have always heard comp 1st, but he uses 2 comps and suggests the rhytmn chord overdrive go before compressor.

Yes, check the current issue of Guitar Player Magazine for a few good concepts on building a pedalboard. Then try for yourself with different pairs of pedals before and after each other. I found wah before distortion worked well, but the other way around does give a nice funky seventies B-movie soundtrack vibe (well, maybe another letter not B). Some old effects are noisier early or late in the chain. I like distortion, then delay, then trem (and maybe I didn't really hear a difference it's just I can't get it out of my head that Fender amps had trem last after gain and reverb). BTW I didn't know there was a Boss TS9, but anyway the Boss pedals are all buffered so it's not like you have to pick one out to go in the beginning of the chain in order to drive the rest of the length of cabling.

My board
Agree with Vizcaster ... get the current Guitar Player Mag on stands now .. .all about pedal boards, order of effects, etc. Inspired me to rip mine apart and rebuild with better ordering, tighter cable lockdowns, minimal cabling, etc. See photo of my current (country) rig:
![]() http://www.tdpri.com/telephoto/data/...edalboard1.jpg I challenge anybody to see if they can cram more pedals into a board than I have. Hee Hee. Notice the top row .. I built a raised platform to make it easier to access those forward pedals over the front row. Two items, I want to add: 1. spare pick container 2. LED Clock to track gig times. The Ernie Ball 1/4 -> 1/4 connectors are vintage ... bought them when I was a young lad (15) .. first started playing back in the 70's.

Also consider that if you're using adjustable custom connectors like George L's or Planet Waves pedalboard wiring kits, you don't have to put the pedals in signal-chain order - just whatever fits on the board and feels right for your toe. I notice the pro pedalboard rigs diagrammed in the guitar magazines have the numbers all different from the actual layout of the pedals.
