It's your choice.

I have a friend with a "Keeley-d" TS 9...it just didn't sound "right" to my ears. I prefer the stock BD2 to a TS9 anyway...

TS808 and BD-2...

You need them both. As you have discovered, they are very different.

Personally, I can dial in any level of grit/gain/drive/sparkle between my two dirt pedals. A Bad Monkey and Keeley's modded DS-1. What's funny is I think the Keeley DS-1 has a better sparkle and cleans up much nicer, but of course it can't fake a blues tone like my Monkey!

You have a monkey that can play the blues!?

Wow, I'd love to see that!

I plan on selling my vintage rat pedal to buy a ts808 keeley. Report your findings if you do decide to do it.

I have exactly the same experience. One of the guys I used to play with had a Keeley Modded Comp and TS-9. The Comp was always breaking down and the TS-9 didn't sound anywhere as good as the stock. But I have a 10 and 9 and they are both vintage. The Comp we actually sent back to Keeley to get it fixed and it lasted 2 weeks. Now don't get me wrong, I am not, repeat NOT slamming Keeley electronics. I think they do great work. But these were more than likely anomalies and not the standard.

I use the Keeley TS808 and LOVE it.. I also use the Keeley BD2 and love it... both are very different pedals... I find the BD 2 works better with Humbuckers and the TS808 works incredibly well with my Tele... I also have the keeley comp which has worked flawlessly for many years... wouldn't leave home without any of these pedals.
