Sugestions needed, my pedal board build was a bust....

It came out beautifully, but the covering I used didn't take to the "hook side" velcro at all... So rather then start (yet) another in a long line of obsessive "projects" I thought I would ask what are you using to house protect and transport your stomp boxes? I have 5 pedals and am looking to add two more, is there some thing in the $100.00-$150.00 range that will hold (and carry) them all?

First of all, I'll state for the record that everything I have ever learned about pedalboards, I learned here.

I put the hook side on the board and the loop side on the pedals, so if you take a pedal off the board and place it on carpeting, it won't stick.

Secondly, I cut the velcro to just fit the top surface and not wrap the edges. In this way, putting it in/out of a case doesn't pull up the edges. I enclose the bottom of the board with a sheet of masonite to keep everything tidy.

Thirdly, a PedalTrain board with hardshell case offers great protection. You might be able to pick one up in the Garage Sale or on eBay. Other options would work, too. George L's all around. Works for me.

Velcro messes up the bottom of your pedals and is not going to handle much banging and bouncing. I use 2x picture hooks screwed into the wood on either side of the pedal, then thread a long cable ties over the pedal, through the hoops and tie it back into itself, clamping the pedal to the board. Very easy and very solid, plus it does no damage to the pedals.

I use a wooden box my friend gave me. Its about 2 1/2 ft. by 3/4 ft. and about 6'' tall. 5 or 6 pedals fit in it with a very small power bar.
I went to home depot and got some industrial strenght 2 sided velcro. it sticks to the wood & the bottom of the pedals really good. The Boss pedals are a little tricky cause they have indents in the bottom. But it still holds.

Same problem
I just peeled the rubber off my BOSS pedals and then put the velcro on.
Works well IF you don't care about the rubber. I figger I could just glue it back on if I was so inclined later on.

I've had great luck with velcro on my pedals.. if you get the industrial strength stuff (this one includes it) they don't even wiggle.

Mine is probably one of the cheapest. Made it out of a $10 poly cutting board. It's easy to drill for wireties, feet, etc. Bought some of the industrial strength velcro which sticks very well to the board, a couple of large rubber stoppers for "feet". Probably have $20 in it. Fits in an old sample case I had. Even has a built in handle.I hope I don't get laughed off the board!

I had my son pick me up a Pedaltrain/2HC when he flew into fairbanks yesterday. He brought it back on this morns flight and I just opened the box up. Plenty big, and case is heavy duty; I see why everyone likes them; worth the bucks for protection as around my place things tend to get busted up laying around. No joke, the travel case is worth the 80 bucks. I had to give 210 at mum & pop guitar store but try to support them when I can as they have all lowered prices trying to compete with online places. I see the same one for 189 HC & 119 for soft case.

There is some extra room inside of case, measures 24X16.5X4 with an extra 2 inches of give in foam eggs in the top of lid. So you could easily get something 5 1/2 inches high in there.

I guess most online places still have older model, have to mount pedal power on top with pedals like the one I just got, but that'll be fine; it'll work. Actually, I have some nice wormey chestnut boards exactly 16 inches wide. Going to have to make my own just to fit in that nice travel case, ha.

I just got a cheap piece of wood, cut it to size, took a staple gun and stapled on some indoor/outdoor carpeting I got from Home Depot for less than $5, the velcro on the pedals sticks to it great. It's been two years, and no problems. The velcro isn't even the industrial strength stuff, it's just the regular old velcro strips you can buy at Home Depot. When it rains, I put it in an outdoor garbage bag so the pedals don't get wet. For my next pedalboard (which will be bigger) I'll go with George L's. It'll still be wood and the same Home Depot carpet. I hope they're still selling it!

If your gigging and traveling get a board that has a case,preferably a hardshell case. Gator makes one that will hold 6-8 pedals,has its own power supply and a soft case for a little over $100.Nice board,I have it along with the big Pedal Pad board.

You can make a pedal board out of just about anything, but to do it right,have a case for it and a power supply,its cheaper to buy one already made.

I got a DOD pedalboard at my local shop for $5. It had been sitting under a counter/shelf for forever and looked like dooky. Cleaned it up with a bit of windex, hit it with some armor-all and it looks great.

Now, all I need are some pedals.

Seriously, it's 'fitted', so it only fits the DOD pedals, and all I have is a wah & a rt 66, so it's of no use to me. Maybe I'll use it to carry my slides in.

Anybody out there got a board full of DODs?

ps--ASATFAN--that cutting board rack ROCKS! I think I actually use that same one to cut my veggies on, and I thought I recognized it immediately

Any joiner / carpenter worth his salt will make you something like this fairly cheaply I would imagine .
It's lined with industrial velcro ( off Ebay ) and the inside of an old brief case comes in handy

Is there any particular indoor-outdoor carpet that you're using? Looking for something like that for the interior of my pedalboard (homebuilt).

I'm also looking at the Gator cases myself, the Gig Box Jr looks like it might be the ticket (the wooden version that looks like a Fender case, not the plastic version), with the bonus of a triple guitar stand built into the lid. Would like to actually see one before I plunk down my Jacksons on it...

I went much simpler for my solution and it has really worked out for me. I grabbed some scrap plywood I had in the shop. Cut a long slot in it for the wires, ran velcro strips over and underneath it (on the face, of course), then cut a slot for a handle. Then simply made some tapered pieces for the sides and a piece for the back underneath. I used wireties underneath to hold the cab;es in place and ran a one-spot power supply.

And voila!



I alos tucked the power wires in through the slot and drilled a hole for the one spot connector. I've been thinking about doing the same for in and out 1/4" jacks... but that might just look too professional.

It's held up for almost a year now of gigging, practicing, throwing it around in the trunk of the car, whatever. The pedals stay in place well between the velcro on top and the cables being wire-tied underneath. Also, I've changed out pedals with no issues whatsoever. It's been very convenient and it was super cheap to make. The only thing I actually had to buy was the velcro... I had the plywood, the wireties and the shellac I use dot finish it!

I have an original Pedaltrain w/the hardcase...It's an inch or two less wide than the Pedaltrain 2 that is out now. I mount with velcro. no problems and pretty much indestructable.

The Pedaltrain with the hard case is awesome! I went looking for the biggest-size one with the gig bag, but my local shop won't carry them... he considers them a hazard to pedals. He talked me into the mid-sized one in the hard case, and I'm very glad he did. It's a TANK, and makes me feel totally secure lugging ~$1000 in pedals around. And although the case is heavy, the board itself is very lightweight and very strong. Running cables underneath, and being able to place things anywhere, makes it very neat and flexible.

Homebrew or Pedaltrain. I wouldn't do anything else now.

I went to a local shop with around $100.00 and picked up a small Gator pedal board. I got rid of all the pedals that I never step on, the few pedals that were left fit just fine after that. To top it off I took some of the money I had left over and had George L's made for the board.

Djinn-I have a pedal board that I wasn't so sure about the velcro so I went to a hardware store and bought some heavy duty plastic strapping and some wood screws and a basically strapped them down. Works great. You can get it in black and it is very secure. I don't have any idea if you have a wood board but that worked for me.
