I finished my 5E3, and wanted to double check the voltages. Could somebody double check these for me?? There's charts and lists ALL over the www, but no real consensus. Every thing looks right to me, but another pair of eyes couldn't hurt...

B+ is the DC voltage supply for the whole amp - typically measured at the +ve pole of the reservoir filter cap (in these type of amps).

In the UK sometimes this is called the 'HT' (or High Tension) supply. However HT supply is also a term for the DC voltage at each filter cap power supply node for the respective stage you are looking at (e.g.: we might say that the HT supply for V1 is measured at the pre-amp filter cap node etc).

Is that any help?

Yes, I got it. Measured on the plus side of the center cap, correct??

What would cause low voltage there, and will it hurt anything?

I plugged in an NOS? RCA 5Y3GT and the cap voltages went up to 415 368 269, now that seems a little high, correct??

So I put the JJ 5Y3S back in and now the voltages are 344 306 225

Maybe just needed a little more break in?
I haven't run it much at all till today....

Interesting, you'd expect it to be the reverse.

I know, but I've also heard that the JJ's spec closer to the NOS tubes than the sovtek's. The NOS voltages alarmed me. From what I've read, the voltages shouldn't be that high.. Of course it could just be this tube...
The amp is within specs, doesn't make any odd noises or smells, so I'm just gonna play it!!
It sure does like single coil guitars!

Na, I think I've got it. I really appreciate how willing folks are to help us noobs out with this kinda stuff. The more I read, and ask questions, the more I begin to understand this stuff. This is fun, can't wait to start my new project.

All part of the service. Either set of voltages are at the lower and upper ends of the range of what will work most optimally for a 5E3, and its a matter of personal taste as to what is preferred. I like something around 350 on the plates myself (just to add to the possible confusion)
