Bassman 5F6A Head Cabinet Plans

Hi,

I'm looking for head cab plans for a bassman, 5F6A. I suppose anything close and I could adjust as needed. But all the plans I've found so far are for speaker or combo cabs. Can't seem to find any that are just a head.

The chassis is 7" deep by 20" wide. It's a "tube's up" style, so it could be taller and not as deep as normal.

Thanks.

Someone posted some pics for a tweed head cab made by this mob...

They might chip in and give you some ideas.

Or workout something from this sort of thing?

i think you can pretty much do whatever you want -- head cabs are really pretty simple.

since your chassis is "tubes up", i assume you mean that they're at a right angle to the control panel like the transformers. that means you're going to be doing something more marshall style.

here's a link to weber head cabs (https://taweber.powweb.com/store/wccabs.htm#head) -- they include the dimensions for the marshall cabs. for weber, the cabs for the fender amps are the same, they just don't use the piping.

basically, you'll see that most head cabs are either 20" or 26" wide, 9" tall, and 9" deep. the fronts and the backs should be cut 1/16" smaller in both directions to account for the layers of tolex. the control panel cutouts should be sized to work with your chassis.

good luck! looking forward to pics as you progress.

Good tips. I'm actually thinking of building it open front/back so you can see the transformers and tubes. I've seen this before, but can't for the life of me find pictures right now. 26" seems awfully wide for a chassis that is only 20". I'll probably make it 23-24" wide.

And I may just go with a wood finish instead of tolex. Probably just throw together something quick/dirty out of pine for now just so I can build it. But eventually I might get a nice piece of exotic wood and make it fancier.
