Tramp Head kit build thread

Hi all, my Trinity Tramp Head kit turned up during the week and I decided to share and document the build for future reference of others who may wish to tackle this amp. I started off sorting through the inventory and checking off all the parts, measured and labelled all the Resistors and Capacitors. Then spent some time working through the manual which is nice and comprehensive. The attention to detail in the kit is exceptional.

Here's the Chassis mounted in the Head, Trinity did a beautiful job on this, It is made of 5/8" baltic birch, finger jointed and finished in the customer's choice of Tolex or Tweed. Stephen kindly supplied Cream knobs to suit my choice of Fender Rough Blonde Tolex and I can see it's going to be an eye-catching little amp when finished.

Here's the back of the cab.

Checking out the parts list, all quality parts and there's an amp in there somewhere.

Installed the terminal strips and tube sockets.

Nice beefy transformers too.

Next up is the Heater Wires.

From the description

It sounds intreresting. Didn't see how many watts is it supposed to be.
What size is that chassis?

Looking foward to a full review when its complete.

Chassis dimensions are: 14" X 5" X 2.5"

When run with a 6v6 she is approximately a 6 Watt amp and when run with a 6L6 she is approximately 12 watts. When swapping tubes the Bias resistors are selectable via a switch setting for the appropriate tube.

Looking good. How many positions or detents are on that selector switch?

you do fine looking work Snowy, and I'm sure she'll sound as good as it looks too.. I think this is what Cruisin home was referring to, as here's some of his fine touches he's done with his... a touch of class indeed.

Ernie,

thanks for Posting my tube label and nameplate for me, my friend!

It is just a little way that I decided to customize one of my builds. I thought it important to give leo Fender credit for his design (even though I made mods, Leo was always modding) but at the same time not claiming that Fender built the amp.

It cost me approx $25 with postage to get 5 nameplates made. The tube chart I printed on some very good label paper (heavy bond) that had sticky back in my inkjet printer on the highest quality/resolution. i cut it out in the traditional label shape. The background was done in powerpoint and chose a "wallpaper" that sort of appeared antique-like in appearance. Would be glad to share files with any that want to PM me. Always get compliments on it from fellow guitar friends.

My brother died on March 17th, St. patrick's day, and suprisingly the unit produced it's first good guitar tone on that day despite being completed earlier. Had a bad preamp tube right out of the box. Replaced and been Nirvana since.

Good Luck Snowy, you are on your way to a nice build there, something always cool about a Cab instead of a combo!

Those tube labels and the nameplate look great!

Hackworth1, the selector switch is adjustable as far as click postions go, I have it set to three positions which will be for 4, 8 and 16 Ohms selection. You change the settings by adjusting a metal tabbed washer on the front of the switch, you just lift the washer, rotate it until the metal tab on the washer lines up with the number of click setting you want to set the switch for and drop the tab into the numbered hole. In total you can set it for 12 position clicks.

The weekend is fast approaching I should be able to hit the build pretty hard in the next couple of days.

These are what I did for my Weber 5F6A clone that I recently built.

Wow I just love the Fender 5F6A Bassman!!! I like your new name the "Bluesman". I think its a great blues amp, maybe the best.

I see you marked it the A/C , any special mods/switches etc?

Gotta hear the sound of that amp, send us a clip?

Cruisin, do you remember who made your nameplates? I'm looking to do something similar.
