test with voltmeter on the lamp and see if you have voltage. also test heater voltage. confirm that you have a fuse in the fuse holder and if you do that it is not blown.

after you switch it off make sure PT is not real hot.

As for Caps, I dont know what you had connected or not, but just get in the habit of discharging everytime.

It's probably best to power up for the first time with a simple bulb limiter and no tubes.

See the advice here

On my 5E3 from Trinity, there is not 2 black wires going together to one pole on the power switch. Maybe got a different PT than me?

This is from my layout I I got from Trinity:
2 black wires from PT. 1 goes to power switch. Other connects to white wire from power plug from wall. There is another black wire in the power plug, it goes to the bottom of the fuse.

Dude, I am confused. My layout is different. One wire going to each side of the switch.
Here is my layout:

Hopefully someone can help. Did you try Coco at Trinity?

Your problem is transformer was payed out for 240volt mains like Canada. Yp
Your schematic gives the dotted lines for connecting to 120volt which I assume u have. Given this the blk/red and blk/what should go to switch which it appears dyou have done. Now the neutral wire from your power cord must be tied to the blk and blk/blue wires from transformer. Xdo
I can't see yourwhiteneutral connection in the pics but I am looking at over my iPad in airport on travel. Please describe your neutral connection. Also do no ground this connection.
Would be nice to do a volt measurement on each point in mains circuit.
Good luck

Talking to u Dave.

My bad re Canada. Just looks like their xfrmer setup for 240v mains but it has alternate wiring for 120v.

Dave how did you connect the white neutral from your power cord?

if you look at the top picture, you can see the white wire on the left with a red heat shrink on the soldering. that's connected to the black and black and blue wire, pulled to the side. not good?

That sounds correct Dave. Take some volt readings.

1) Do I need to discharge the caps now that I've plugged it in and flipped the on switch?
2) I ordered a new pre amp tube socket so I have a few days to trouble shoot anyway.
Going back to this post,

No sarcasm intended, but you did install the #47 bulb correct?
I do not see the bulb installed in any of the pictures.

non taken. there is no light. i'm an idiot.

I just got a 47 bulb but it doesn't want to seem to go in. How much pressure are do you have to put on those things to get them in?

If you do it with the chassis on the bench, you can see the slots that the pins on the bayonet base align with. Press in , and turn to locking position. Generally its not very hard, I usually just use my thumb.

Does the amp work at all? I saw mention of mild hum but no mention of if it plays.

not sure, haven't had time to hit it with a voltmeter. i lost my job so the better half wants me sending out resumes instead of doing amp stuff, so i've gotten bits and pieces done over the past week.

I did notice that the terminals on the lamp holder are rather close to each other. If possible separate them, and make sure that they don't touch. It will put a huge load (short) on the filament winding of your PT which may should blow the fuse.

Other than that, it's a nice neat job, I do like the flying leads coming off the bottom of the tag board, it looks nicer, and is neater when you do it that way.

So I'm just took my first measurement. Without tubes i'm getting a ready of 113 at multiple points at the board. I was confused, but since I have a Sovetek 5y3 and now an NOS RCA, I figured i'd throw the sovtek in there to see what happened. Well it glowed and off pin 4 i got a reading of 363 which sounded reasonable from what i remember reading in other build forums. Am I ok to start taking other readings? I really can't operate the amp until my replacement tube socket comes in.

Also I'm going to be adding a VVR probably today or tomorrow, installing it where the power switch is now, and placing a off/stand by/on switch where the standby is now.
