Which Jacks Would You rather Rely On?

Here's the original Champion 600. One of the first Tube Guitar Amps to be Manufactured In China.

Here's the Champ 5F1 Circuit developed over 5 decades ago. Modern high quality Components on a turret board which easily fits in the Champion 600 chassis.
Buy one of my 5F1 kits and convert your own late model 600 to the original Heavy Duty Champ 5F1 Circuitry.

In this build, I'm installing a Weber W022772 Power Transformer and a Tube Rectifier. The Power Tube Socket becomes the Rectifier Tube Socket. A new hole must be punched out for the Power Tube.

For simpler and cheaper kit projects, a Full Wave Diode Rectifier should be utilized. That way, the existing PT can remain in place.

This amp will be a 5F1 Clone with old-fashioned (tee hee!) tube rectification.

There are various schools of thought on this aspect.

A Diode Rectifier cicuit is lightweight, uses less energy, is easy to make, cheaper, and can use the existing light weight PT.

A tube rectifier creates more light and heat. Looks cool.

If you could provide some pictures and describe your project here or elsewhere on this forum... help will be forthcoming. Let us see waht you got and waht you intend to do.

Like Hannibal said, Quid Pro Quo.

Right now I have the amp sitting in factory condition, and I have a 5f1 ptp board. I want convert over to a 5f1 configuration but using a ss rectification. The problem I am having there are not schematics I can find to do this. So I don't know if I should just pull the factory board and make the rectifier circuit or tap the factory board.

Make a full wave diode rectifier with four 4007 diodes. Check this build. Scroll way down til you see it. Then scroll farther til you see it in the chassis. There are four connections.
Two for the reds. One ground, one output to your board.

OT is fine.

Champion 600 Power Transformer has no heater circuit for a tube rectifier. You would need a new PT.

Many (if not most) will tell you (correctly, IMHO) it's not worth doing. B/c there is little to no benefit to tube rectification in a single-ended (one power tube) amp. Looks cool though. I like tubes.

How did you make out, BTW?

I have not started the project yet, I've been too busy remodeling the house I'm trying to get moved into. Just trying to see what is going to be the best way to to attack this thing.

As you have sent me one of your $29.99 specials, I thought I'd put it in an unused combo... A Bugera V5. This was my first all tube amp, and after little SS practice amps, it was very nice. But then I tried a couple DIYs, and I know I won't use it again. I Have a nice speaker for it, your kit, and I don't want to spend any more money, so I looked up your Champ 600 mod. I have to open it up, but I imagine it's got a similar OT/PT. (Anyone know?) Specs say 12AXY preamp, EL84 power tube, and I imagine SS rectifier. Are the voltages for an EL84 in the ballpark for your 5F1 board?

Btw, I made a drawing to clarify your SS rectifier... is this correct?

Thanks always!
