Quick Q: Resistor across a gain pot

If a gain pot is 1Meg, and there's a resistor across the lugs it, the resistor is in parallel, therefore DECREASING the available gain, correct?

Depends what value resistor, and which lugs. Post more specifics.

OK there's 2 1MEG gain pots, one for each channel.

One of them has no resistor, and the other one has a 220K ohm resistor on it, I believein paralell.

The one with the resistor should yeild lower gain, correct?

Still depends.

What sort of amp are we talking about here? Is it something we could look at a schematic for (i.e. a classic Fender/Marshal/other design)?

It's actually a newer modular design amp, like the Randall MTS series. Definitely not a classic design, but a pretty standard gain pot, I'm guessing.

Still lots of questions unanswered.

If we number the pot lugs 1, 2 ,3, with the wiper being 2 and the resister going from 1 to 3 then what you have is about 180500 ohm pot.

Now how that pot is connected to the rest of the circuit to control gain will decide which channel has more gain.
