advice needed for a 5f2a mod
Pulled the trigger on the parts for my first amp build yesterday... but I could use a little advice regarding a mod I'd like to make to use a 6L6GC as the power tube. Take a look

Make sure you get the proper OT. The 6L6 likes to see a load resistance of about 4200-5000 ohm, whereas the 6V6 likes to see 6600-7000 ohm.

5F2A w/ WSE15 = NO PROBLEM!! Use the stock 470 ohm cathode resistor and you'll be able to switch from 6V6 to 6L6 any time.
Your taps become 4, 8, 16, 32 with a 6V6 if you want to get hung up about it. A 10k load on a 6V6 is a little high. You have a choice of a little high or a little low, I'd go high. There's enough room on the 5F2 chassis to add a barrier strip between the circuit board and the PT for the extra taps. |
