Installing Tolex?
What is the best way to go about installing replacement tolex on a vintage amp? I recieved the tolex yesterday in the mail. What type of glue should I use? Tips?

You only need to replace the tolex on your bottom panel, right? If the rest is in decent shape I'd leave it. Hopefully you haven't stripped it off already. Even if it's a little nicked up you can detail / repair a lot of the damage. Bottom panel only is easy. Just fill the cracks and dents, cut a square piece of tolex and stick it on with contact cement.
I picked up a Twin a while back with a re-covered bottom panel. I had it for a couple weeks before I noticed the bottom panel only re-cover. Matching Fender black is supposed to be easy. "Everyone" says they sell it. Most of it is too shiny and the grain patten doesn't match on some of it. Bottom panel only isn't noticable though. |

That website is excellent. I'm only planning on replacing the piece that covers the bottom. The directions call for tolex glue. Tolex glue is $30 for a gallon. Is there a way to purchase a small amount of glue? Should I just use the contact cement? Also, is there a local place to buy these glues or is it an internet only type thing?

I have had good luck with waterbased contact cement..
you can buy it is small quantities. I bought a quart and it is enough to do a princeton reveberator.. tweed princeton.. and champ 400 and still have about 1/3 a can left.
