Thanks, Mark!

You still have that Princeton Reverb? Did you get its issues all ironed out? I remember you sharing that project progress before. It looked killer.

I can't resist throwing some of my simple attempts at building my own. I really can't say I understand the finer points of the art, but I can solder and follow layouts pretty well. I'm always amazed and the electrical knowledge and woodworking ability of members here. Here's a few I did (forgive the photography) - a 5f4 Super and a BF Vibrolux:

I built the Little Gem using the directions and schematics at;
http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/
It is a Solid State amp that runs on a 9 volt Battery. As an added bonus, I learned how to etch PCB's. The Little Gem wont rattle any windows, but it is a lot of fun to build and play with. I am not sure i would record with it like an old Champ, but it is still fun to build and play. Cheap too. I thuink i have under $25 invested with Radio Shack parts. I put this one in a Cigar Box with an old computer speaker as a "Combo Unit."

Great stuff guys! I'm considering trying my hand at either a 5e3 or a 5f4 but can't decide.

After trying a few different things, I've wound up with something like a 5F1 / 5F2A: one 12AX7, one 6V6, 5Y3, one knob. It's basically a tweed Champ with tweed Princeton iron (Dynaco PT, Mercury OT), 1x15 combo in a western red cedar cab, Weber 15F150.

The cedar is extremely light and resonant, but very delicate to work with. This amp is intended for home and studio use, not to be dragged around on the road. Since the cedar dents so easily, and this cab isn't getting tweed or Tolex, I went ahead and "pre-dented" all of the soft grain using an old technique called "ball-burnishing".

It's an extremely labor-intensive process! The soft grain is compressed, both soft and hard grain is polished. After this (and when the weather improves) I'll shoot the cab with clear nitro.

Fancy grille cloth goes on right before it ships to New Orleans...
