Something you Reaper fans haven't shouted out!!!
A little rambling first then I'll get to the punch.
I phoned up my brother. I consider him a recording guru and my primary goto before acquiring gear. We were discussing some ways to maximize my setup in particular ways to alleviate the burden of plugin processing on the CPU. We talked about those DSP external and internal devices like Powercore, Duende, Liquid Mix, UAD cards etc.... For those not knowing what a DSP device is, it is basically a device which will process plugins taking the load off your CPU. They cost mucho loonies (Canadian dollar) and in most cases their plugins are proprietary and cost a whack. Quickly ruled these out. I mentioned to my bro my plans of picking up a new laptop and we began discussing a PC network for recording. Using the PC as a master for my DAW and using the laptop as a slave that will process my plugins. He has four machines linked this way. He told me this was not a problem. Just needed both machines to have a good ethernet cards and to pick up a piece of software called FX Teleport. This software networks your PC's for audio recording applications allowing you to have one machine as a dedicated DAW host and the other as a DSP plugin slave. Wow I shouted with glee. Here's the link http://www.fx-max.com/fxt/ He called me back about an hour later and said, "hey Stu have you heard of Reaper?" "It has a built in network protocol that will allow you to network pc's for recording too." |

I think though FX Teleport is a good solution for someone who has alot invested in an application or like an application that doesn't have a built in networking protocol, like Sonar. |

So with all the cool stuff that Reaper has, I wonder how long it will be before the price goes way up and it becomes too expensive for the common man. I hope that doesn't happen I am beginning to really like it. This new revelation has me eyeing up the other old computer I have lying around. Maybe it's time to put it back in service.
