Is Audacity any good for home recording?

I recently obtained a copy of Audacity. How would I export the tracks on my digital recorder into my PC and then mix them or fine tune them using Audacity?

Thanks in advance.

What kind of digital recorder do You have ?

Most digital recorders have a USB interface ...

My recorder...

...is a Fostex VF08. I think it was made in 1999 or 2000.

Hmmm ... Had a quick look at the specs, and it doesn't seem to have USB ! :-(
I guess You could use the Digital S/P DIF to export tracks to the PC ?
Or, if everything else fails, re-record them using whatever soundcard You've got on Your PC ?

I've got a BOSS BR864 recorder myself !
I usually record, mix & master my "creations" on the recorder, then export the "mastermix" (1 stereo WAV file) to my PC using USB and then use Audacity to normalize (if required) and convert it to a MP3 file.

Can't really help You with the Fostex ... But I'm sure there are some Fostex gurus here somewhere !

Good Luck !
