Recording a miked amp through USB preamp?

Hi All-
I'm a total noob to digital recording, and I have ordered an M-Audio Fast Track. I'll probably be using Audacity for software.

I know I can record straight to the input on the Fast Track, and I assume I can also record a miked amp through the vocal channel, which has a preamp. I really like the way My current rig sounds, and I'd like to try recording my amp miked.

What are the pros and cons of each approach.

Also, Can I put a mixer like this one: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Mix60/ in "front" of the USB to record a small combo, i.e., two miked guitars and a miked bass into the tapco., the Tapco into the Fast Track, and the fast track into audacity? I realize I loose thew ability to do a lot with the track once it gets into the software, but there's something about a band playing live that just works (at kleast it does with my band).

Yep, you can mic your amp that way, and you can also run the Tapco mixer into the instrument/line in (switch it to line in) AND put a mic straight to the Fast Track, so you can record two tracks simultaneously.
