Plug-in help needed

Thought I'd throw this out there as someone might have an idea.

I recently got a version of Pro Tools Academic 7.3 (newest version) which comes with a bundle of plug-ins. I would like to learn to use the midi functions & one of the plug-ins included is Sampletank by IK Multimedia, which has quite a few intruments.

All the plug-ins loaded sucessfully, were then registered (incl. Sampletank) & all are available in the insert menu EXCEPT Sampletank.

Sampletank opened that first time (when the registration box comes up) but hasn't been accessible since then. I've uninstalled two or three times, tried updates, searched the net, etc. but dread going to "technical support".

Any thoughts?

Is sample tank compatible with pro tools? It must be RTAS, not VST. What platform you on?

This is a lite version that comes bundled with Pro Tools so it's definitely compatible.

Anyway, I emailed IK tech & they were helpful. It turns out that Sampletank only appears on a STEREO track, where as I had everything set to mono since we were mostly mic-ing up to that point.

Actually, a BFD drum plug-in (which I have used & that also came with it) DOES run in mono so I never thought to check the mono/stereo thing.

It's that learning curve thing again.

I've only had the whole package for a month so I'm still finding my way around PT much less the plug-ins.

The BFD module seems super-flexible, once you know how to use it. Just from browsing through it I can see the potential. You can build kits with specific drums, change miking patterns, velocity, etc. & the sounds seem good.

But I have to say as a novice, I don't find it very user friendly. At this point I'm just looping a canned groove to use instead of a click track.

I am still getting the midi sorted out with my studio, not to mention I don't have alot of midi experience, so it's probably too soon for me to have a real opinion.
