Wally Heider!
![]() The Great Wally Heider okay geezers and lovers of the bygone era will recognize the name. Check out the link, the gallery is well worth the visit. What is really cool is how much DIY there was going on by the musicians, engineers etc... |

during the heyday of Bay Area music in the late '60s-early '70s, Wally's name was mentioned with reverence -- unusual in that irreverent time!

I recorded there a bunch in the 80's when it was called Hyde street studios. Still had the old echo chambers. I saw a Janis Joplin Documentary a couple of weeks ago, and she was recording in a room that looked familiar- it was studio A.

There's a guy who used to very active in the local DC music scene named Peter Bonta – he played with some very popular local groups. Anyway, he opened a recording studio in Fredericksburg VA many years ago, and named it "kinda/sorta" in Wally Heider's honor: it's called Wally Cleaver's Recording. LOL
![]() And coincidentally enough, I used to work at an ad agency founded in the 1920s by a man named G. Wallace Bauerlein. So our creative director named our in-house production company after him: he called it "Gee, Wally!" Productions." ![]() GMTA, right? Hee.
