LOL...

My wife doesn't have a problem with it, probably because if I don't have the room to work out of and teach from then I don't pay the mortgage.

I have friends who get a bit of grief from their other halves, which I outwardly sympathise with but secretly high-five myself on having such a cool wife.

Here's my main recording station:

I just got the Roland electronic kit. I don't know how much I'll actually record with it, but it's great to have because it enables me to practice at the drop of a hat and easily play along with music or a DVD whenever the mood strikes me. My drumming has already improved.

My POD X3 Live pulls out from under the desk:

Guitars and congas not pictured.

Here's the inside of my drum enclosure in the garage:

It's not too pretty, but it does the trick. I also record vocals and acoustic guitar out here. I've got a monitor, keyboard and mixer hooked up to this computer on the outside of the drum enclosure, so I can record guitar and scratch vocals if I feel like it, but I haven't felt like it very often. I've also got chimes and timbales in the garage.

Where no gear is too cheap. Can you find the lava lamp amidst the clutter.

Finally got a third monitor going using two video cards and a software called Ultramon. Ultramon gives you a task bar in every window. Kinda geeky but it works really well. I'm also in the process of designing a custom console. We will see how that goes.

Sweet, I just added a second monitor, really makes life easier with all that extra real estate.

Wow you guys all have some beautiful recording spaces! All I have is a desk with my Macbook & MOTU Ultralite. Oh, and a lava lamp! Have a nice pair of semi-open headphones and two dynamic mics (a 609 and a Samson Q7). Thinking of making a pop screen one of these days.

Is there a major element that I'm missing? Thinking of getting a HM-1 to round out my mic selection a little. Do I need a mixer or any of that stuff?

A kick-ass mic preamp would certainly be high on my list.
An API 512C plus lunchbox would set you back just shy of a grand and give you room to expand, otherwise just use the MOTU pre's.

A nice compressor - TOFT, Distressor- API would round it out as well.

Alright, this is embarrassing but here goes:

My humble "Studio":

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

The circa 80's BFI console has nothing to do with recording and a lot to do with lack of storage space.

My monitors are behind me. I admit I get confused every so often.

Mostly direct recording except for vocals and acoustic.

Hope you enjoyed the tour!

Dan

Some Very Nice Setups!

... all around.

Here's a pic of what I had last year ...

Add a quick drawing of my new loft, which is in utter disrepair ... Hey! We've only been here in the new house for a year!

And (finally), here's a quick snap of the mess that is MudBean Music at the moment ...

I use this plus my 72 thinline RI. probably the lamest studio here but I can get some results. I use the patches in the recorder too but I modify them on each tune to get a decent sound.

I love seeing what everybody has in their studio. Heres a few pictures of my small DAW room down in the basement. I have a dell with windows XP home addition with SP2. Added 2 gig of memory. SR-16 drum machine. A fast track pro with a couple mxl cheap mikes. You can't see but also have a line6 pod XTlive on the floor. I record mostly straight into the FTP (fast track pro) which has phantom power. I fixed the dell OS to get the best responce somebody showed over on the cakewalk site. Oh, yeah I'm using cakewalk music creator 3 for the program. I'm quite surprised what it will do. Good enough to put the ideas down own and have a good sound. Anywho everybody keep the pictures coming, so I can keep dreaming. Well better get back to work. Later and cheers!!!

I made some changes to my "studio" since the picture of mine on the first page of this thread. I got rid of the "bleachers" for my pedalboard & added/removed some pedals, added a Blues Jr. and a VibroChamp XD. I also added/sold a few guitars.

Here is my studio. And I use that in the most basic sense.

Going from left to right. Line 6 UX2 Tone Port (as the I/O), Maxtor 300GB Hard Drive. Right of the monitor is the ZOOM HD16 which I use as a DAW controller as well as a standalone recording unit. My meager rack has a Nady Power Conditioner and a Behringer Tube Ultrgain Mic Pre. I use a Behringer HA400 micro headphone amp. Using Cubase LE for the DAW. The near fields are Sansom Rubican R5a active monitors. It has taken my a few years to amass the equipment and I am still trying to make the studio ergonomically correct as possible.

In case your wondering that is one of those desks you use to use in Biology class back in High School. There are holes for the gas lines of bunson burners which are great to snake cable through. The slots also make for handy storage of manuals, program discs, sandwiches.

Here a few views of the room

My DRRI.

Thats an Eastwood Mandocaster leaning under the SFTR. The guitars in the rack from closest: Gretsch 6120/59 Chet Atkins, 52RI Tele with Hipshot B-Bender, early 90's Fender Stratocaster, Taylor T5 electric/acoustic, Dipinto K & A short scale bass.

Gave up recording on PC after a crash lost a couple months worth of work. I know, should of backed up on another drive but instead, I eliminated the problem and went back to my analog board (Mackie 24.8) and the Alesis HD-24XR 24 track recorder. Love this set up and I love how my Wife performed a "nip-tuck" on all the wiring. Dang I love that woman!

i won't bother with posting pics of my studio. but heres what it is, 24" imac running cubase se, and a presonus firebox. couple of condenser mics,

we rent a house on 29 acres in the middle of nowhere to jam, but the house is not worth the effort, so i just track in my room. but for beers and good times and rock, an abandon farm house was my dream

After a long period of disarray (and little use) and then packing a lot of it up into boxes – my studio is finally very close to be being back in working order (at least for the next two years or so):

So i built a desk this weekend, and it's not quite finished. Compared to what I had before it is soooo much nicer. I will probably incorporate some rack rails in there eventually as well as some cord management.

Not all of my stuff but the "command center" gives you an idea i suppose.

mbox 2, vintech 273 (neve 1073 clone), UA 6176, M Audio Sputnik, AT 4050, KMS 105, Shure SM7b, and a tone of plugins. The vintech clone rocks. i highly recommend.

I dig that desk. It is like the one in my office at school. A former professor of recording modified his desk so that the drawer spaces on the left and right were converted to racks. It was very cool.

oh now thats interesting... if i get another piece or 2 of rack gear i may have to look at doing that to mine.

funny thing about this desk.. i had one a long time ago, and i had to sell it when i moved. after we got this place i wanted another one so i found a picture on the internet and posted a 'wanted' ad on craigslist... i got several responses.... the people i bought it from actually showed up at my door with the desk on a trailer... it was pretty weird...but cool.
