That's a great space Greggory. Looks real cool.

Are the traps behind your amps homemade?

Thanks Stu, the things behind the amps - eggcrate foam glued to 1/2" insulation foam covered with funky fabric. I used to have them on the wall, but I don't think they did much there. When I put up the foam currently there, I didn't want them to go to waste so I stacked them behind the amps. What I think really helps is putting the amps on platforms with carpet spikes (like on the bottom of good stereo speakers), it keeps the vibrations from the floor and walls.

Nice space, Joe!

Say, I noticed you've got some AT2020s; what have you been using them on? They stink on my vocals and they seem to muddy up my acoustic guitar, but I'm sure they have to be good for something!

Here's half the room. Not pictured is a small desk that the BOSS BR1180CD recording device sits on.

Here are updated photos of our "Rumpus Room Recorders"...

This is the garage/practice room/tracking room:

And this is the control room (and my bedroom) right on the other side of the wall by the stairs:

We finished construction two weeks ago, and I don't have it wired up yet, but soon...

Cheers, Tim

Do you get to punch a hole in the wall so you can see whats going on from the control room?

I'd love to take credit for the drywall, but all I did was pay for it!

I am going to put a little conduit between rooms to run mic cables, but I'm just as glad that I DON'T have a window, considering what my bandmates look like...

Here's my future man-cave.

All I can say is WOW.

I move my laptop from the livingroom, to the bedroom, to the kitchen, where ever my wife 'aint. I have absolutely zero space that I can call my own, except for the corner next to my side of the bed.

Someday, I might be able to build myself a small finished shed. Until then I have to stay mobile.

Always a trade off, ain't it?

That's pretty much what I've been doing for a loooong time. I'm looking forward to my own space where I (or my wife) won't have to move my stuff or put anything away every time I turn around.

That reminds me, I've got to make a sign that says "NO GIRLS ALLOWED".

My set-ups are not so elaborate and are highly portable. We mainly record in our rehearsal room and I have 4 Tascam Portastudios. My main ones are my 1990 Tascam 688 Midistudio:

and my 1997 Tascam 564 MD Portastudio (below, with Mouse):

I also have a new Tascam DP-01FX/CD and a 1992 Tascam Portastudio 424. I master to one of my many (approximately 40!) Macs. Since all of my Tascam gear and outboard FX are portable, I use whatever I find appropriate for the situation. I began multi-track recording with a Tascam Porta One in January 1988, and I have always favored Tascam gear. I will add that I still prefer using these kind of multi-trackers (analog and digital) to other methods of recording, such as software-based recording. I have several really good programs, but I could never really get into recording with the computer. Odd, given that I am a huge computer hobbyist, and I love building and modding my computers. I do like mastering to the computer and burning finished CDs and making mp3s, however. I think that since I cut my teeth by recording with Portastudios, I simply feel more creative working in that realm. I am an "old school knob twiddler", I freely admit that. And I still like cassettes. Of course, I am aware of the inherent sonic limitations, but I have heard some amazing things done with them. My digital Tascam Portas are cool for me, because they offer digital quality audio with cassette Portastudio functionality. I did so much tracking in the '90s with my 688 and 424, I really have enjoyed working with those machines a lot. Which is what drew me to the 564 and the DP-01FX/CD. The recording process feels the same to me using those machines. And I am certain I would enjoy the new Tascam 2488 24 track recorder similarly, as well.

Thought I would get this 'De luxe' set up as I want to be able to play when the kids are asleep...........................and the 'Pro' version might be a bit of overkill.....................

Well, it's a start. It serves my purposes for now. I think I need a better desk or table to put everything on, but it'll do. Right now I'm using it to practice with backing tracks and to record the results.

Yamaha MG102C mixer, DigiTech RP80, iPod (for backing tracks, etc.), Mac Powerbook G4 w/Audacity, Sennheiser headphones. Not shown, Vox Pathfinder, SFVC, MIM Standard Strat, and a TS7.

I haven't posted to tdpri in a very long time, but: thought I might enjoy it again. Digi Design (Digi 001) on a home built Windows AMD computer. It's been up and running for more than two years without any problems. Interchangeable drive trays allow multiple hard drives to be used. Internet drives are segregated from studio drives to avoid any problems and with four computers in the house, it is only used for studio work. Dual monitors are the only way to fly. I am trying to figure out how to run a third without causing any problems.

By the way, the Taylor and mandolin just happened to be out - I own three telecasters . One of them is a new Nashville B Bender, but; I will talk about that in the proper forum.
