M-Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard users?

I just received and successfully installed a new sound card on my PC... The M-Audio Audiophile 2496. The card supports all major audio applications (Pro tools?), and I'm looking for guidance on a software package for desktop recording. The protools looks a bit expensive, and all I want is a few tracks, some drums, and bass and keyboard sounds to mix rythmn along with guitar fiddle and vocals. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

PK

Free is a good price!

Cheap works well, too, as in REAPER, which is what I'm using...

Cheers, Tim

PK what do you consider a reasonable price?

(EDIT) and you are looking for something that can mimic drums, keyboards and bass right out of the box??

Reaper looks fantastic Tim, really nice looking user interface, sharp. Priced similar to nTrack but looks cleaner.

Yeah, I loved n-Track, but got tired of it crashing on me!

Cheers, Tim

www.multitrackstudio.com ... there are n-track users showing up there occasionally looking for something that just works. $119 for pro version ... I've been using for years ... simple ... doesn't crash ... solid effects. I'm trying Jamstix with for drums right now. Check out the forum there ... almost nobody with problems.

I've been using CuBase.

Forgot how much it costs...

I really like it though, if that helps :)

Thanks for the replies. Free is nice! I would like to have the drums etc. If I can't go free, I'd be willing to spend up to a couple hundred. Since this card has midi in/out I'm going to see if I can send midi files from my boss drum machine/sequencer.

I downl;oaded reaper and I'll play with it for awhile before spending $. Thanks again everybody. I appreciate it!
