Logic 7.2 Mac Problem

I know stupid - should have backed up...... However, my vocalist recorded an amazing vocal line with a few pops and clicks, and I was cleaning it up. Took a small bit of audio into the sample editor, went in factory, tried the silencer application. Didnt like what I had heard, and went to edit, where I undid silencer machine as many times as it would let me. 5 in total - which was not enough. (I've now set up for 30 undos) The audio file is permanently changed. Even though I had not saved. I closed down the project and opend it afresh but knew I had messed up.
OK, its not a complete nightmare as its only a five seconds of audio, but the effect is to give her a lisp. Effectively she has been well and truly de-essed into Elmer Fudd. Any solutions to this? Is there any way to remove this treatment? Thoughts, suggestions etc most welcome.

A de-esser is often done by compressing a very narrow range of frequencies. Maybe try an expander on the ssssssss frequencies and see if it can bring them back a bit.

And, always, always work on a duplicate track if you're doing destructive editing as in the sample editor.

Good luck with it.

Cheers,
Geoff

You can actually find just an ss sound from another spot that she might have sang, and fly it over to the tail end of any words you want to fix.

I got nothing since you basically hacked the track in the Sample Editior. As stated, make a dup of the track and then have at it. And always back up before and after you do anything.

I once wiped out an entire guitar track like that... it sucked.

I rerecorded it.. the song would have been layla if I hadn't screwed up.. the world has never known what it missed... I sit in the darkness nights and wring my hands...

seriously man, set your levels of undo to 99, learn from this small mistake, always work on copies and live well... have the girl come back in and recut it.

When CSN&Y finished recording Woodstock Neil Young thought the Stills lead was one of the best solos ever.

Stills went back into the studio that night and recorded a new lead over the one Young raved about. Supposedly it's one of the reasons the band broke up.

When the Buffalo Springfield finished recording "Mr. Soul", Stills thought they had a hit. Neil took the tapes and went to Gold Star and added more guitar solos over the take Stills raved about.

See a pattern?

There used to be stuff on Youtube of Stills and Young literally fighting. Like some kinda hippie wrestling match. It was hilarious.

Yep, undo 99, work on a copy.
