Thanx for that, Petey ... I hadn't seen that one, though I've checked out quite a few others. I'm pretty convinced that I'll go for the VRM as soon as I can.

Yeah, I'm considering it too. Just hope my cans are up to it. They sound ok but aren't brilliant. I have a pair of Senheiser HD 202's and an older pair of openback Seheiser HD 410SL's which needs new pads.

Swell, I just broke down Thursday and ordered my first set of "real monitors." Or, at least they say so in the product name - at my price point that was all I could afford :) Still, this would have been cheaper, and less 'splainin' to do...

No, since you need both, you're a jump ahead — Magicgit was talking about a Sweetwater deal, a mere $150 for the box and a set of KRK headphones Focusrite deems adequate. So now that you got your mons, that's a mere trifle in its effect on your domestic capital.

I ordered the VRM from Sweetwater to be sent back with my little GDEC when it is repaired. I already use Sennheiser headphones, so I just went with the box. In order to retain my Alesis mixer as the audio out, I'm going to have to run the stereo RCA out of the Alesis to the VRM. I think it will be a big help doing the mixes in my small room. I can listen to the mix out of my monitors, straight to the headphones or through the VRM playing with the various configurations. Should confuse me more than I already am.
