Wavelab 7 questions

I loaded Wavelab 7 today and am stumped. This program came with my new Zoom H2n, which I used to record band practice the other night(it sounds pretty good!). Not even getting into the mastering stuff, right now all I want to do is trim the mp3's a bit, resave them, and email them out to band members. I "think" I got the trimming part down, but then I must be doing something wrong because I can't save the edited mp3's.

Anyone?

I haven't used Wavelab, but if it's like most audio recording/editing programs, there's probably an export file or render file command where you can choose the type of audio file (MP3, Wave) you want. Usually the file save command is used to save the whole project.

If it came with your Zoom I suspect it would be a "lite" version and as is the case with Cubase LE the "save as MP3" option is not available. Steinberg only gives you this option with full versions. I have Cubase Essentials and even it only allowed I think 6 free MP3 saves within a certain time of purchase.

I export files from Cubase as Wave files, load them them into Nero and save them as MP3's there. Perhaps you have other software you could do this with.

Just had thought, could you burn the file from Wavelab onto a disc and then rip it to MP3 from itunes or similar?

Audacity will create MP3s from WAVs and it's a free download. It's a lot easier to figure out than Wavelab, too. Just be sure to get the LAME library when you get Audacity.

But the files are mp3s already, recorded as such. When I open them in wavelab to edit, are they converted to something else?

It's common for audio software to convert files to an internal format on loading.

Perhaps the Wavelab support forum can answer your questions with more authority: http://www.steinberg.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=47

Ok. So having the LE version, I can save edited mp3's as WMA files. Does anyone know of a free program that converts WMA to mp3?
