Good interface for iPhone 4 & Garageband?
Apogee or others? I also would use it with my MacBook Pro if possible. Thanks,

I just got that setup, Apogee + iPhone 4s. From what I read the Apogee is supposed to be best of bread and works with desktop or laptop machines too. Only got it days ago so not a lot of experience with it. Have yet to try the interface with the mac mini.
The reason why it's supposed to sound better than the Jam is because it plugs into the usb port of the iPhone rather than the mic/headphone jack. Last edited by bbmyers; December 13th, 2011 at 08:19 AM. |

How are you using the iPhone with Garageband? I'm quite a fan of GB, and after much experimentation I came up with the genius (ie staring me in the face for weeks) idea of using my cheapo Zoom digi effects board's USB output (always wondered what that was for) into the Mac, guitar into the Zoom, made a completely vanilla patch (ie no effects at all) and it acts perfectly as a totally noise-free interface to the Mac. Much better than plugging straight from the guitar into the input on the Mac (possible, and works, but is quite noisy).
Sorry if I've rambled. What was the question again?!! |

I'm talking about adding the GB App to my iPhone 4 & using an interface for guitar into that. Would also likely use the same interface into my MacBook Pro to replace old 'iMic'.

I was using an iRig for a while, to play through AmpliTube on my iPad.
Fine for farting around at home, but not loud/clean enoigh to play through an amp. Also, I was getting frustrated trying to record multiple guitar tracks; turns out the iRig bleeds the headphone monitor signal back into the inout (guitar) signal. So, useless for multitracking. I hear the Apogee jam is better, because it feeds through the 30-pin plug instead of the headphone/mic jack. However I have since given up on using my iPad in the studio; I find effects pedals and a Zoom H2N for recording are much better sounding and easier to use. |
