Logic learnin'

Still making the transition from DP but getting on well with Logic, wanted to do this track for ages, ended up keeping it straight and simple.
One or two things are in different places than DP but overall Logic seems faster, both on the machine and on me !

The song that made me learn how to play guitar! I love this version... great job... love the electric piano too... I miss when that was a big part of the country rock sound....

Great stuff John!

Love it! Man, that is one sweet amp in your hands. Did you play in the piano part yourself?

I'm a Logic noob myself and found it quick to get the hang of, though I've only scratched the surface.

Cheers guys !!
woody, you hear more of the SparkleDrive than the amp tone on that unfortunately but if I turn that thing up to get that kind of sound out of it i'll be doing structural damage !!
Funny someone doesn't invent a 'Master volume' control ....... oh, I see.
Yup, did the Rhodes clumsily myself, with all the editing I needed to do to it was a great crash course in Midi within Logic, the 'Hi string' part in the left speaker is midi also and the acoustic on the right is a 'Variax' I borrowed from a friend ... yes, I have the D18 but it seemed like a neat thing to try.
That scrolling/zooming thing is a little annoying and I really think I could do with an extra monitor too, with prices as they are that wouldn't be a bad idea.
I'm really liking 'Logic' though and I was a committed MOTU user since DP2.2, seems easier on the Mac's resources too, i'm still on a G4 with 10.5.8 and 2Gb of RAM and Logic runs as sweet as a nut.
getbent, yeeaahhh, thats such a great song, perfect for a trucker or a gigging musician I reckon, and that intro is worth the price of admission alone I reckon. Yep, I remember the Rhodes, I love 'em when they are ever so, ever so, ever so near to breaking up, what a great sound.

Thanks Sharkblues, a quick question for the experts though (gb ?), how the heck do I clear all the automation data on a track ?, I know from the manual I should hit 'Control+Apple+E' but when I do I just get the 'bonk' sound ...
Should I have another window open before I hit the keys ?

Nice one. We've played this song live for years. Loved the keyboards.

As a by the by, got tickets to see Little Feat on the 28th as a support to Leon Russell. Can't wait, this will be the third time for me (and the second time I've seen Leon).

Mr. Big John, there are tears in my eyes.
That is BEAUTIFUL.
If I could play like that my wife would fall in love all over again. The recording sounds top notch to my ears.

Good stuff!

Just gonna mention that I stuck a link to a list of keyboard shortcuts in Logic in a recent thread here. Probably just as easy to google - but either way having them at your fingertips (yes, aware of the pun) really helps the workflow.

Are there any pubs named the Henhouse around you?

Cheers,
Geoff

Ha !, MM, if you said you were from 'Deepinahearta Texas' most folk here would just think that was maybe the other side of the next village ..

We are in spitting distance of a village called 'Thorpe Morieux' where my maternal side of the family hail from and DAC claims in his book that his folk originated there, it's such an odd name I can't believe he made that up.

Just gonna bump this up again to say - there's a lot of little "secret" doodads in Logic.

Well, they're not really secret - but it might take a little digging to discover them.

Like the compressor. There's a little triangle at the bottom. Clicked it for the first time a couple days ago. There's some interesting stuff in there. Like a sidechain input that could be used as a de-esser. More info here: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/music...-de-esser.html Or just watch this vid: http://www.popmusic.dk/download/logi...r-tutorial.mov

The guy posting that also has some presets for de-essing and modeling an SSL type compressor (among other things) in Logic on his website. There's a link to it somewhere in there. Definitely worth checking out.

Ok, back to the Logic comp. Clicking that triangle at the bottom also shows you an output level slider. Back that off and you're basically doing parallel compression without having to buss. Cool!

Cheers,
Geoff

Nice one Geoff !
The help files and tutorials are excellent with Logic but like most, I don't feel like sitting down and reading 1000 pages for fun so tend to use it for reference, discovering stuff is fun and I think you remember it that way too.

the help menu is pretty good. if you learn to use it, you'll never look in the manual.
