Rode M1 – Keeper?

Sorry this is a bit off topic as my question is regarding live applications.

After some trouble I had with the brilliant sounding Rode S1 (it just didn't work with some phantom power supplies) I used my trusty shure SM58 so far. Still wasn't too happy with the sound but happy that it produced sound under any circumstances since more than 20 years.
Recently purchased a Rode M1 dynamic mic. It seems to be well built and is more even in frequency range - not as detailed as the S1 but better than the shure. I used it in a rehearsal studio with the high end bose L1 as well as on a gig with our drummers cheap yet good sounding PA. On both occasions it sounded decent, detailed and open, yet I missed some of the power of the shure – it just didn't cut through the mix as I would have liked – so on the gig I switched to the shure for the second set. Cut through the mix better but missed some of the detail. The lady singer of the opening act came to sing a song with and used the rode with good results.
yes I know, it's my voice (though I've done some lessons lately and get nice compliments for my progresses ;-), but please help me decide wether I keep it or send it back (I can get a full refund within the next weeks). honestly that mic-topic is becoming kind of an obsession for me, I find myself looking for the mic at any youtube clip I am watching recently. maybe I should just use the shure like I always did and be happy?

Have you tried a condenser mic for the stage?

Yes, Rode S1, sounds good, but did not work with every power supply. It just shut down or sounded distorted on some mixers.

Try one with a wider power tolerance. The Shure SM86 will take 11-52 VDC, the ElectroVoice PL84 does, too. Rode doesn't show a power supply range on their site, but some condensers are less amenable to varying power supply voltages than others.

Back in the 90s, I worked with a singer for years that used an SM86 - always sounded great and never had a problem, used it in dozens of different venues, with sound systems ranging from state-of-the-art to abused bargain basement gear like a Mackie CR1604 that had beer poured on it countless times.
