Reaper and Garageband

Can there be collaboration between these two programs? I haven't laid down a track in over a year and I am a little out of touch but I have a friend in California who is a MAC. I am a PC. Can we still do this?

Dan

short answer? yes.
longer answer? it has some challenges.

I'm your other friend in california and I owe you some tracks too...

Some questions? are you or he just adding a single track?

The way I'd recommend it if the tracks have to go back and forth is to export each track as an individual .wav or .aif and then reassemble them on each side. You can run into some timing issues (it won't be that bad of a problem)

but if you get into dense mixes, it will be a huge pita.

is it a long term project or short term? (just thinking of ways to get you both on the same platform and same software)

Hey GB! Nice to hear from you!

I am not sure what my friend has in mind for the project so I will have to get back to you on that. I am sure they will be simple projects. More just a way to connect, have some fun and make some memories. Something to have a good laugh about in 10 years.

He did download Reaper for Mac but thought the learning curve was a little high for the time he could devote to the project.

It could be long term if we end up having fun. Is there software available that could cross platforms easily?

I think I can handle a little time shifting for the time being. I will keep you posted on our progress.

Thanks again GB!

Dan

The way we generally do cross-platform collaborations is to have a common click track. Each track subsequently recorded has four beats of the click track (and then four more silent beats) mixed into it at the beginning.

At mixdown, the mixer just lines up the clicks!

Hey Tim!

Thanks, that sounds like a good place to start.
