Hints on Recording Gear
O.K. after years of gigging in bars and live houses, the scene is starting to dry up a bit. I am wanting to get started in recording my own clips, or put my ideas over backing tracks. I have a Mac with Garageband and a couple of good guitars. What can you all recommend for the gear in between the two. I am thinking Line 6 or is there another beast out there. I have a small apartment so mic'ing an amp is out. Any suggestions to start me out? Thanks, I really appreciate it.

The Toneport UX1/UX2 have been replaced with the Pod Studio UX1/UX2. I don't think there's a lot of technical difference between the old and new models.
I use a Toneport UX2 with both Mac and PCs with great success. The PodFarm software is excellent and gives you lots of amp/cab/pedal simulations. Great to use with headphones as well. The only problem with them is that you need to have them plugged into a computer to use them. If that's an issue, then the POD range might be better. You can still connect them to a computer for recording but at least you don't need a computer to run them. |

the Crate Profiler 5 is similar to a Roland MicroCube or Vox DA5, plus it is compatible with Traktion software (included) and it has a built in USB port ... they should still be available ...
