Apple Audio Units DLS Synth
Apple's built in Audio Units DLS Synth is pretty handy, but it is also really huge. Is there any list that shows all the sounds/instruments for the Apple DLS Sound Set with the Program Number and Bank Select so that i more easily find all the sounds i need and set them by sending the program change, chan, and bank numbers i need via midi?
This seems to be sub google. I would think the core audio docs or some such would have them, but I don't see any such thing.... I am also half way curious about using the Soundfont option for loading yer own banks of sounds. I usually don't use much Midi but am finding the built in thingy helpful for sketching stuff out in notation software and just being able to hear play back while out on the road with my laptop, but i am need to know the program numbers and banks for setting that. |

Bada bump... no one knows this? Is one supposed to just keep sending midi program numbers and midi key numbers till you find what you want? There are 128 programs and 128 keys to send if, for example you are trying to find the drum mapping. There HAS to be a spread sheet or pdf of this out there someplace, no? When i goggle all i find are other folks asking the same question without any answers. I know this is likely close to general midi, but it would be exceedingly helpful to know exactly this DSL soundset programs and mappings. I tried looking at garbage band which prolly uses this, but it is so user friendly that doesn't appear to show you the program#.

That is what i thought too, but some devices (and virtual ones) that are "general midi" have some slight divergences from what GM is supposed to me. I have a GM chart from midi.org and will just bang through and see if it is close or exact to GM. Hopefully the perc maps are also the same. -kp |

I think if I remember correctly the DLS synth uses the same as the QuickTime ones, the DLS part comes from 'downloadable sounds' so you can change your sound sets by downloading new instruments as 'sound fonts'.
Some blah blah here.
