Recommend me an Audio Interface

Hi, can anyone recommending me an audio interface for my PC (Runs Windows Vista)? Something along the region of up to 200-300 dollars. I would really appreciate some recommendations since I don't know much about recording.
However, I have been eyeing out this audio interface by Edirol.
I plan to use this audio interface to connect it to my PC and use Fruity Loops/Cubase to fill in any gaps in my recording.
Thoughts?
Finally, Thank you.

Just a note: I'll be running my guitar into the amp then to the audio interface then to the pc if that clears anything.

Hi, looks like to me it does everything you need. There are quite a few Edirol interfaces out there, perhaps check the Edirol website/forum/FAQ first to make sure that the Vista drivers are ok.

I use a Line6 TonePort, it's pretty similar and comes with some additional amp-modelling software.

BTW - I don't think you should run the guitar into the amp and then the audio interface. You are meant to connect the guitar straight into the audio interface, then record on the PC/Mac. The audio interface has 1/4 inch and RCA outputs which you can use to connect up to the amplifier for monitoring. Or you could use headphones. Or proper active monitor speakers through the computer line-outs.

The other way is to play the guitar through the amp, mic up the amp and then run the microphone cable into the audio interface and record.

Cubase is a good tool, Fruity Loops as well although perhaps not that great for audio recording (correct me here if I am wrong). I use Sonar - similar to Cubase, different interface.

Oh I know Sonar! I was thinking of that too but I've never really used it. Is it hard to use?
Also, I was thinking of using the amp for it's effects. It's one of those AD50VT amps that has effects. So I'm thinking of using the compressor from it mostly?

I have an M-Audio Fast Track Pro, plugged into my PC. I use REAPER software to record and edit, etc. I run my guitar effects units through the Fast Track (direct) I also use it as a MIDI device along with a Korg keyboard. It also has phantom power so I can run mics that need it. It works well as a mic pre, too, if you wanna mic an acoustic guitar or something. Easy to use, easy to install, sounds great.

i used an Edirol that wasn't nearly that fancy with good results for about a year. the MIDI function is a great feature (my current interface doesn't have it).

Sonar Producer is great but the learning curve is steep - as it's with all "semi-"/professional recording software. Best to choose one and stick with it, in the end they all pretty much do the same thing (well, considering). And if you are only using it at home, you'll probably only need 10% of all its functions.

If your amp has a Line-Out connector, then use this to plug into the Edirol. Headphone jack is ok as well. Sorry, I was probably mistaken in thinking that you'll disconnect the speaker and run the full power signal into your audio interface. Silly me!

I think the point is that you shouldn't be afraid to take it on. It's not hard at all to get up and running, recording audio and MIDI. The greater mysteries/functionalities of the program will unfold as you work with it.

I've been very happy with my Firepod. It comes with cubase lite. You can use it or not.

Yamaha MW series of USB mixers are great audio interfaces.

A basic model should be affordable
