bought an Alesis io 26

it is weird how sometimes you see something, read up on it and know you want one even though you aren't sure why... that is how I felt when I saw the io26 come out... simple, easy to the daw... like an apogee without the gee whiz. (I love apogee's so don't be flamin' on me)

We're getting ready to record and our new building is done... so, I was gonna take my alesis multimix 16 over and get it all rigged up (we're using a headphone amp (we settled on the behringer.. I think Big John said it was good and it seems great... it was bundled with 8 sets of AKG headphones... and inexpensive!)

Anyway, I start hooking everything up and HUMMMMMMMM.. I trouble shoot most of the afternoon and HUMMMMMMMMMMM. I run to Guitar Center and bought a couple of mic cables that seemed to be part of the problem (and we were short a couple) and I try changing the ground etc... everything you do to suss these kinds of problems and HUMMMMMMMM.... so, I decide, it is the multimix even though it has never given me a moments pause....

I start looking for replacements.... (we have some money saved for gear) a guy wants 350 for a multimix, I offer 300.00 no soap.

So, I call Guitar Center... they normally go for 429.00 I get it for 300.00! YAY! 8 analog inputs and firewire for 3bills! and you can chain'em!

I usually love my local GC... they have been pretty good... but something is definitely up there... it takes FOREVER to buy this thing... this manager, that sales person ugh! But, I leave and get back to the 'studio' plug it all up, install the software and.......... PERFECT! Yay!

Got everything squared away and I think the IO might be a cool little trick for the budget recordist... I see they have refurbs of the 26 for sale for 217.00... I think we'll buy another so we can do 13 tracks at a time.... (6 guys, 5 singing, mics for all the instruments and drums.)

So far so good. I recorded some stuff to test the mics and settings and I was really happy with it...

anyway, that was my experience today.

Interesting, glad you were able to de-hum the chain. I hate when stuff like that happens.

bought an Alesis io 26

What is this "bought" you speak of?

Oh, you mean pulled the trigger. You picked up an Alesis io. Gotcha.

The band recording sounded good, seems like you got a handle on it.

Oh yeah, I forgot, nice score.

excellent (and dare I say) Hip choices of buzzwords Durtdog!

I will accept your praise in the manner that a man in the desert for 40 days accepts the offer of water!

I'm confused (not that that's surprising), you bought an IO26 but you used a multimix? Or did you use both? CAN you use both?

I own a mulitix. When I went to use it at the 'studio' it became a steady beehive of hum.... so, I bought (picked up, snagged, pulled the trigger on, turned out, cribbified) an io26... and it worked beautifully... the mic pres are so nice... astounding for something so 'budget'.
