I've been looking at these at tiger direct for a recording only unit. they're small and look to be decent and cheap. anybod had any experience with one?

Yes. and my advice would be to keep looking ...

I have a 4 year old Shuttle XPC. It's our bill paying, internet brownsing, 'guest' workstation. I've replaced both the power supply and the motherboard in the time I've had it. They are proprietary. For the most part you have to buy everything from Shuttle and - as far as relieability goes - I wouldn't do it again...

To compare - I have two older towers. 1 in my studio that is Asus based in a Koolance tower and 1 I use as a SQL server to host development work that I do. No problem upgrading, maintaining and the server tower has been with me since WIN 95. 4 year old Intel motherboard in that one which I guess I'll need to upgrade sometiome soon for performance sake ... (10 years ?) It's an Antec case.

Thanks 4mal I'll steer clear...should know you get what you pay for..Think I'll just buy a MB/cpu bundle and rebuild an old tower I already have.

Cheers

I have a shuttle pc... got it for free, so you can't beat that. Runs windows fine, only problem is the fan is too loud, and it forgets its bios settings every time it is off the mains.
Installed Windows and Linux, both running fine.
