Line6 Toneport into Reaper- Monitoring?

I posted this on the Reaper forum, but haven't gotten much response.

I think I've finally stumbled on a horme recording setup that works, at least for demoish kinda stuff. It is as follows :
guit>Line6 Toneport UX1> Half-dead crappy laptop that amazingly seems to work for this>Reaper.

So I really just started fooling with it last night. At this point, I'm just trying to get down a rhythm guitar track and then play some lead over it.

Here's what I can do:
  • lay down the rhythm track while hearing what I'm playing with fairly minimal latency- I'm listening by using headphones plugged into the jack on the toneport
  • Lay down another track in the same "project"
  • Hear both tracks played back together, while mixing relative volumes and such.

Here's what I can't do:
  • hear the rhytm track while I'm playing the lead track. This is an issue for me, as I'm improvising over the rhythm track

Can anybody point me to something? Does it have something to do with using the headphones in the toneport? Should I be monitoring through the PC instead? But if that's the case, why can I hear both tracks while in the mixing stage?

I monitor from the computer, and it works for me. Can't answer your other questions!

Cheers, Tim

Right at the moment, no, because my desktop computer is in pieces (long story), and I'm in the process of rebuilding it with a new motherboard/processor/memory/power supply, and then attempt to not lose anything off my hard drive. I'm cautiously optimistic that it'll be up and running by early next week, and will try to find out then!

Cheers, Tim (who's glad he has a laptop in the meantime!)

Actually, I figured it out. I just neglected to disarm the tracks I'd already recorded. Seems to work fine.

Now I just have to figure out how to render to mp3 instaed of WAV.

For MP3 google "lame" and put it's DLL into your reaper folder(as per instructions) and you're good to go.....free!
