Finding the Phase

I'm looking for the type of phasing heard on "The Big Hurt", "Itchycoo Park", "Open My Eyes", etc. I know how it is done in the analog world by using three 2 track machines but I was wondering if it was possible to achieve the same effect using DAW software. Can anybody shed some light?

You're looking for an effect called 'Flanging', don't know what system you use but it's a fairly common effect found in lot's of DAW's.
The two machines would be set up to record on the third and then one would be delayed (by less than 20msec) by putting your thumb or finger on the flange of the tape spool, hence 'flanging'.

I'm using Cuebase LE which came with my Zoom HD16. I also have Ableton which came with my Toneport UX2. I just haven't heard anything in there with that "whoosh". Guess I will keep playing around in there till I find something.

you could try setting the flanger/phaser depth pretty deep and the speed very slow and see what you get from that ....
