Guyatone Guitars
Anyone played an old Guyatone? This particular model looks amazing:

played a strange offset bodied one with three pickups and switches like the ones cassette players had (push one down and another pops up kinda thing). it wasn't a bad player but the pickups were either VERY LOW OUTPUT to begin with or there was some faulty wiring because it barely made a sound. I suspect the latter due to all the fancy switches. And the one i played had a narrow neck that was also really thick. odd combo

My first electric guitar was a Guyatone.
It was white with black pickups and had rocker switches. It looked kinda like a Jazzmaster. My folks gave it to me for me, though I can't recall whether it was a B'day or Christmas gift. Dad made the amp and cabinet, and shipped it to Austin from Alaska. He was stationed in King Salmon at the time. I was the happiest kid in town! |

A couple subtle things I love about the design is the input being on the front panel and the three way switcher near the cutaway. Plus I'm a sucker for that paint job.

Guyatone/Antoria/Burns-Weill all did an LG50 in the late 50's.....before playing Fender and Burns Hank B Marvin used an Antoria LG50 and Burns currently have an LG50 re-issue in their affordable "club series".

Long Fender-ish headstocks ?
I bought this as a flipper 3-4 years ago - ![]() ![]() ![]() Owning these guitars is like owning old cars - you either devote your life to it and end up working on them more than using them or, you have a couple, think "Oh these are fun" and then you're over it. Very quirky and there's always something...

I love 'em. I have two in that style.
One TEISCO built Silvertone tele style that has awesome finish checking ![]() And an early Guyatone, sorry I don't have a better pick. It looks much better now after a polish and strings

I had one in gold sparkle... you could drive a truck under the strings... It didn't have a truss rod!! and the just had a Fender Jaguar type tremolo system, the bridge was in a fixed position. I paid 20 bucks? I think

I have owned a Guyatone and still own another.
I bought one similar to the one above in post #11, it was Tele shaped, like that one but had only one pickup. It was an awesome slide guitar with that lairy Japanese pickup. It was in a real state, with a warped neck, but a bit of fun. I sold it on, but kept that pickup and put it into something else. I still have a Guyatone lap steel guitar, however the plywood body started to split, so I made another one out of beech. I have just resurrected it, but I am waiting on some thicker strings to set it up with. Has a great pickup for lap slide too.

I love those old guitar styles! The more rocker switches, mini switches, etc. for the controls the better. It was like the future, man!
The only problem is that I hesitate to buy any I find as I'm a bit of a collector (no, not a bit, too much of a collector) and I find myself getting pulled down further and further in an OCD-like need to own all that I can. Sigh. Nope, for me I have to love them from a distance. Yeah, that's a lovely guitar. I can see why you feel the way you do...
