Jaguar ?

I bought either a Jaguar that had been refinished or a copy back in 1975. Does anyone know if there were spot on copys back then or before ? It looks exactly like a Jag and has all the features, vibrato, switching circuits etc. It does have a 22 fret, 24 inch scale neck, but I think thats ok. The body is 2 pieces glued together thickness wise. Thats the only thing that makes me wonder. It looks 100% like a Jag.

There were the Vietnamese Serviceman guitars.

Scroll down the page a bit for the info.

Thanks, mine does have the exposed gear tuners. What about wood ? My body is Ash, if 2 pieces thick or something that looks and sounds like Ash .The neck looks sort of like Maple, but the grain seems too open. Actually it looks like Corina so maybe its some Tropical hardwood. I've read bleached Mahogany was used to seem like Maple, but the tone when tapped seems wrong for that and it has Mapleish layers only 1/16th to 1/8th inch thick. About 16 in all at the heal. Flat sawn. The fingerboard is light chocolate color w black strips. The truss rod adjust is a Philips head. Should that be a hex if its Fender ?

Pictuers help a lot. What you are describing in the neck is a laminated neck....and I am going to think that you have a 'made in ASia' copy. There was a lot of that going on back then. I have never seen a Fender with a laminated neck and a 'sandwich' body like you are describing.
Bleached mahogany will never look like maple. Bleached mahogany can get close to looking like Korina...which is an AFrican species related to amhogany...open pored wood. Maple is closed pore wood. IT is likely htaht the wood in that neck is none of the above but rather some ASian wood.

I've figured out its a copy, due to the tuners, nut at the end of the wood instead of across it,and the neck not being Maple. Its not a laminate, its got 16 layers of grain, I can see how my description mislead in that direction. I don't think its Mahogany either since I've never seen grain layers like that in any of theMahogany I've worked with. Thanks for all comments.

I can't figure out how. Thats enough wasted time. It has definite lines like Maple , but its not. I've never seen Mahogany w grain lines....The photo upload seems likes its working and then they aren't there. Is a 2.2 meg photo too big to upload? I can't seem to get "contact us" to work for help.

That is WAYYYYYY too big . Edit your photos to no more than 800 X 600 (pixels) max. Then it would be easier to host your photos (like on Flickr, Photo Bucket, or Picassa Webs) then simply link to them. If you will click on "Search" in the upper RH corner, then use the Google Search at the bottom and type in "posting pics/pictures" you'll find posts with more ways to do it than you ever knew existed

I see no pics.
Dave, in case you didn't know it....on the TDPRI and GDPRI, if you use the 'Post REply' function instead of 'quick reply', you can use the 'manage attachments' function below the 'message box to link photos directly your computer to a thread....you don't have to go to a photo service to exhibit your photos here. Paul has made it very easy for us to share pics here.

Teleterr, if you went to that site and resized, did you transfer the resized phots back to your computer adn use the 'manage attachments' function? OR did you link the photos to this thread? from that site
In either case, I don't see pics. IT might be my computer. All I see in your post #9 is a box with a red X in it before the text of that post...and I never can see photos from that type of source.
HEre is a photo posted directly to this thread from my computer.....

THat is the member's gallery. It says....USE THE RIGHT GALLERY......or something like that. Below that is printed...
"Don't make the mistake of just uploading photos to your Member's Gallery. Instead, upload your photos to the category that applies. When you do, all of your photos will ALSO show up in your Member's Gallery automatically.
If you upload only to your member's gallery that is the only place those photos will be found."

Please reread my post #10 above or the PM correspondence we had. That will tell you exactly how to post to this thread from your computer. I saved oen of your photos to my computers and used the method I outlined in post #10 to show this neck here..... The photo is much too small to be of much user for analyzing any details, right?

Okay, DAve, I went back and now understand how you got the better picture to us. That pic is just god enough to show us a solid wood neck that is a fake of a Jaguar.....and probably is exactly what we thougth it was long ago...a Made in Asia, 'sell it to a GI' rip-off guitar. They built fake FEnder amps during that time period, too....sold in Vietnam and the Phillipines, IIRC>

I thought the photos went here , I read the caveat. My camera is mess up, I turned it by accident while holding it and the lens squished itself extending.Yeah its a fake, you can see the grain on the neck tho. Anyone ever seen this fine grain Mahogany ? I think its something else, but not Maple. The neck has a excellent tap tone and has remained perfectly str8 having been used with 8 gauge strings.

Yeppers, my brother brought back 2 of 'em, and gave one to me. He was so proud I didn't have the heart to say anything, was just glad to have him back
Truth be told, I'd never noticed that in the gallery either, but the more I looked at the script in the quote, the more something seemed wrong. Then it hit me, it wasn't there . It's funny the things you notice when you were supposed to be online job hunting

More strat, but it's a poor comparison.
