Les Paul Jr. on Pawn Stars show not a '56 !

I was watching one of those ridiculous reality shows, Auction Kings, yesterday, and they showed a guy with a Les Paul Jr. , the tobacco sunburst, single cutaway with P90 in bridge position one....and on the show they're saying it's a 1956.
OK....so, they show the back of the head stock and the serial number is stamped on the back of the headstock, plain as day.
So, I dialed up the Guitar Dater Project for Gibsons and punch in the number and it comes back, Made In Kalamazoo ...(not much doubt about that) and made between 1965-1968 !!
The number on the back of the headstock is 511858(the last 8 is almost looks like a three but I ran that # and it comes back the same years made).
A lot of showbiz and no accurate info and it would've been so easy.
Instead of showing some retarded "expert" checking the guitar out and not once looking at the serial number, make a big deal about how smart a pawn shop owner you are by knowing how to go online and check serial numbers!
Same drama but better info cause I'm sure I'm not the only one who saw that full screen shot of the back of the headstock and said "oh, really?...let's see about that !..."

Something is wrong, because there were literally no Les Paul Juniors of any kind made in the years 65-68. Gibson finally reissued the Goldtop in '68, but no Juniors. I used to call Gibson regularly and ask them to reissue the Junior, but it took them years, probably until the '80s.

Well I went to the guitardaterproject.org, typed in that number, added "stamped on the back of the headstock" and it came up with 1955 in Kalamazoo.

It seems you selected "Impressed into back of heastock"

That Guitar Dater project thing is a complete joke and I have no idea why anybody uses it for anything.

See above. That site is so damned inaccurate that Gibson warns about it on their website!

Actually that serial number should be a 1955 model Gibson Les Paul Jr. based on the standard serial numbering scheme from that era.

Pawn Stars usually has a guy from Cowtown Guitars. I wouldn't doubt him. I'm not sure about Auction Kings though?

Yeah, the Cowtown Les Paul debacle. That was a real joke. Here's the rundown:

Yeah, they're (all of those "reality" shows are getting called out for it) now being referred to as "actuality" television shows.

Today's lesson is don't take TV seriously. Honestly, these shows aren't any worse than 3's Company was, but at least the Networks didn't try to pass that one off as real.
