That's a lot of videos for well...and lot of well processed blues rock tones that Eric Johnson achieved 15-20 years ago with 80% less gear. IMHO

He's a great player and obviously knows his stuff. But a guitar hero who hasn't written anything classic? I know that sounds negative, but I wonder if his biggest fans are guitaroholics, fans of classic rock and all the 'guitar gods'...I mean, he seems to be a huge fan himself.

Edit...a #2 album in Europe...thanks Google - obviously I have to search out some of his original music!

its cool to see an artist actually do one of these interviews, usually when i see vids like this its the tech describing the rig in either WAYYY too much detail (i.e. " we keep these three equalizer soundmaker do-hickies off for back up purposes and keep all the knobs at 3") or they describe the rig like no body watching knows what a tube amp or effects pedal is.

He is one of the best guitarist of this century in my opinion. I just wish that his tone wasn't so processed.... He needs a tele!

The signature fuzz face that Dunlop released is really tight. Works wonders with a wah
If you tweak it right

I have both the JB Wah and the JB FuzzFace. While I think both are amazing pedals, mine don't seem to play together nicely. I can use a different Wah with the FuzzFace and it sounds great, or I can use a different Fuzz with the JB wah and AMAZING would be an understatement' but together.....MEH

I've contacted Dunlop and they feel that it's my JB95 Wah that's the problem and the offered to check it out and/or replace it, but I declined because I don't want to be without it ( it sounds heavenly with my MI Neo Fuzz) so I'll live with it. Great customer service at Dunlop BTW!!!!!

The JB wah is great but I tried it out with my dimebag wah
Don't have the funds to buy the JB fuzz yet unfortunately :/ but it sounded amazing with the Dime wah
The sheer control you have over the wah really helps out. You can pretty much get exactly what you want and plays great with everything I've tried!

I heard he has 3 or 4 59 Les Pauls? Shows if you put in the miles on the road you can make the big bucks without a hit.

Great vids thx. Saw him recently (from the front row, thanks Mrs Blam!) and he played a Tele on one or more tracks.

The Genre of music is why he doesn't have popular hits. Not many of the Blues greats had popular hits. But he has hits in the Blues Genre and has just released a new album. I assume all the interviews and hoopla are promoting the album and his latest tour.

He has traveled with a LOT of gear for years.

There will always be a fan base for overly processed fuzak, I mean fusion, fusing blues/jazz/rock with silicon. He's a great player but I too wish he had a more stripped down sound.

This reminds me of when I became a techie and took home all discarded comptuers from clients and built a command center. At a certain point, computers, like music, needs only so much and I got rid of the redundant stuff. I saw my needs, and now I have a Mac mini (and spare). I wish I could hear Joe through a tele with a Princeton. I am sure he can do more than well but it would take an act of God to convince him to leave some gear at home. Heck, he doesn't even need to keep it at home since he has a warehouse of redundant gear in other places (Europe, Japan, etc) so he can fly there, set up and do a show, and then fly home.

God bless him, he's got skills, equipment, a talented band and crew, and enough fans to make it playing what he wants to play with people I'd love to be on stage with.

I'm no devotee, but good on him for making a living playing a ridiculous bevy of fine guitars.

I'm not a huge fan of processed tone, but I can't argue with it.

I work with a fella that cranks up some kind of phaser/distorted/delayed/chorused guitar sound on our breaks every day at work. I couldn't imagine having so many pedals, so many effects, but I love to hear him play. Sounds great. I figure he couldn't imagine playing with just the boost pedal I use....but I bet he'd still sound better.

Regardless, tone is in the ears. Playing can't be argued. I dig Joe Bonamasa, and (as a guitarist) I dig that he digs gear. More power to him.
