Tradetang.com guitars

Well, China has done it again. We all love those Joyo and Biyang pedals, but now there is guitars. Does anyone have one of these ? I know they're Chinese, but they look beautiful. I heard about them from a friend of mine, he knows a guy who bought a Strat from there. He says it's a great guitar, just as good as a MIM Fender according to him. I don't think I'm actualy going to buy a Chinese guitar, but a new set of pups and it could be great. The guitars actualy have the Gibson and Fender logos. They look like good copies.

Pure ****e. I have a friend who owns a pawn shop and I'm in there a lot. I have actually been working with him on and off helping out for the last 15 years or so. He bought what he thought was a les Paul custom. This was a few years ago. Luckily he got it one the cheap. He knows guitars. It took us a few days to figure it out. It looked great. Played great. Sounded great. The tell was it had a rosewood fret board that had been made to look like ebony. U wanna talk about feeling stupid... There are a lot of people who own these that think they are real and have put real money into their dream guitars. It's sad that there are these fakes out there. But unfortunately it's a reality and you have to be very careful of what u buy. Please don't buy one and bring one more fake into this great country that was built on legitimate hard work and craftsmanship.

I'll take your advice. I've seen these things happen before, but I didn't think of that when I posted this.

tradetang is not a manufacturer; it's just a kind of marketplace. There's a kazillion different builders on there. It'd be really hard to know what you're getting--beyond the certainty that you're getting an illegal copy, that is.... You can see "MADE IN USA" stamped on the back of headstocks, fer crying out loud.

If you're dealing with a business that is already unabashedly ripping off Fender or Gibson, it would be hard to trust that they wouldn't shaft you just as readily. . . .

Many discussions on many boards. STAY AWAY. The pics are stolen from other websites and in most cases, the guitar or parts look nothing like what is pictured. There is NO customer service response because they no they sold you some garbage. To call the stuff bad copies, would be giving bad copies a bad name

It's not illegal to buy and own one. It is illegal for the Chinese to put Fender, Gibson, Gretsch or PRS on the headstock. That's theft of intellectual property, and the guitar companies are working hard to stop the counterfeits. It is, unfortunately, a losing battle. I wrote a feature article on this subject for Premier Guitar a couple of years ago.

Tradetang is China's answer to craigslist. You buy a guitar from someone, they go out and find one that may or may not look like the one you ordered.

The photos they put up are usually not the guitar you get. It's all BS really.

As far as quality, you may or may not get something playable. If you're determined to buy a Chinese fake, go to ZXY or Samin instead. They are the actual manufacturers of these fake guitars. Usually the quality of these things is on par with an Epiphone and oftentimes, much worse.

However...I strongly recommend you do not do it. In the end, you're contributing to illegal activity. Whether you get involved is a matter of conscience.
